Rear caliper seized

Anyone had this on there mk2? I've done a search but nothing so I'm guessing it's not common although a friend of mine just has to put 2 rear calipers on his golf mk5 so I'm worrying mine have seized.

Tried doing the rear discs and pads today but the piston wouldn't wind back in, I was turning it clockwise and it was turning but just didn't seem to be winding back in. Ended up putting it back together with the old discs and pads.
Praying the calipers aren't knackered.

Any ideas??

How much we talking? I'm hoping it's just the one that's seized as that's all I tried. Fronts were no bother at all.

Surely if the piston has seized then it wouldn't move at all? Mine turn clockwise freely but don't seem to be going in, do I need to apply pressure or should they just wind in? I'm baffled

Have you not tried just pushing it back in, instead of winding?

Nah I thought they had to wind back in??
I just put it back together as I didn't want to damage anything as I need the car for work in the morning. I've never done the rear calipers before so I thought I better just leave them for now rather than making it worse and the car being off the road

You can get a caliper wind back tool for around £20 from the likes of Halfords etc. It pushes and turns at the same time. On all car's I have done rear discs/pads on I have used this tool to wind in the calipers. I have even used it to free of a stuck piston before. Hope this helps.

We change loads of rear calipers at work.A few have been on mk5 golfs,wouldnt say loads though.
Cant beleive how many cars we get in with stuck on rear pads,unbelievable.
Lack of maintenence and the fact most garages dont clean and re-grease brakes on a service is the problem.

You can buy a replacement caliper from the likes of brakes international for about 80 quid exchange. There refurbished oem units and there perfect.

The calipers arnt stuck on, they arnt binding that I know of and the wheels spin freely. The piston turns clockwise but doesn't seen to be going back in, maybe I was doing it wrong...

Anyone else with a Leon mk2 had their calipers on the rear seize up on them? Is it really common or rare?

I think my rear passenger side is like this. It spins but not for as long as the opposite side. Think it may be calliper as it's hot when I stop

I normally would do it myself, I've just done the front pads and discs and I've got the rears to do but I don't fancy bleeding the brake system on the driveway if it needs new calipers.
