Repaired the calliper on the near side, bleed nipple thread looked a bit iffy and yes it won’t hold! Leaks fluid and eventually spun with too much tightening.

What are my options?
second hand, likely to be as bad?
Repair, how do you get it square to seat properly?
new, are they available and what would the OEM part number be?

Cheers guys

What car?
Got a (rear) red one for my Cupra R from euro car parts earlier this year.
Give em a goo.

Rang them rather than using their website.
I never get on with car part websites for some reason.

2004 Leon Cupra R, they are Lucas ones, 38mm pistons. Will give them a call tomorrow, what am I in for if you dont mind me asking?

I had to replace my rear on my cupra r a couple year back and got a red trw one from brakes international for just short of 90 notes new, check them out maybe as well as euro car parts.

I can't remember to be honest. Id guess at around the £100 mark.
They will want your old one as an exchange unit.

ECP list a TRW one in red, £140 with Boxing Day discount and £35 exchange!

Is rear left the near side in the UK?

Will try Brakes Int now

Nice one, they are good value i find used them for years when needed stuff, think alot of people don't know of them to be fair, yeah forget to say no exchange needed.

They have a huge range of the bits and pieces, will bookmark them for sliders and such when I get round to the fronts

Arrived in 2 days over the holiday period, great service!

I’ve fitted it all and run new brake fluid through all the callipers, no air coming out and fresh clear fluid from all 4 callipers.

Brake pedal is soggy and goes to the fluid along with the abs/esp light coming on, is there somewhere else I need to bleed? I thought abs systems were bleed the same as other older systems?

What am I missing?

You need to "bleed or purge" the ABS pump - You will need vagcom/vcds to do this, saying that others will be along shortly who may have a better or easier way.

Did you replace the pads aswell?
When i replaced mine i wound the piston out so when fitting the calliper on it was lightly squeezing on the pads. Rather than fitting the calliper and having wiggle room.

Yes new pads, used the hand brake to wind them in.

I think the leak on the US calliper has dropped the level in MC and ABS, will have to bleed them both I think, so much for an easy job!

Happy new year!

Used the hand brake to wind them in?
Fitted the caliper then worked the hand brake lever to move the piston out to the pads?

Did the new caliper come with an instruction sheet?

Yes the arm on the handbrake mechanism, with new pads there was little movement in the piston.

Are the MC bleed nipples on the underside of the reservoir? Bit tight in there.

Sounds like I bleed the MC before the ABS?

Progress of sorts, the MC bleed was easier than I thought. My R has the MK60 MC, the bleed nipples are on the side. Charge pipe off and it’s fairly easy to get to. I packed some towel around it to catch the excess fluid and cracked the nipples with a 7mm deep socket.

That made a difference I have a small amount of pedal now. Need to do an abs bleed but it’s started snowing! Maybe tomorrow.

Good weather today, 2 degrees but no wind!

Bleed the FR and FL together, 4 bleed nipples, and ran the abs bleed in VCDS. Plenty of old fluid and bubbles through the bleed tubes.

Pedal feel is way better, still a tad spongey at the top? Maybe, or is it me used to sharp MK3 Cupra ST brakes.

Final leak check and back on the road, now how about a wheel refurb now I’ve seen a 4 off the car....

I'm interested in the effect the ABS bleed had - you say there were lots of bubbles? I think I'll need to get mine done. I don't suppose you're near Brighton?

I've tried to see if my ABS is actually working and so have been doing some sharp braking on wet roads, but it's just not kicking in.

I had bleed the master cylinder and the front callipers, it wasn’t until I ran through the abs pump bleed routine that I got any pedal firmness back. So if you have some pedal then it might be a normal bleed you need or maybe a fluid change?

I can feel the abs releasing the brakes on the damp surfaces Sunday afternoon, but it isn’t anything dramatic at the speeds I was doing. If your abs pump wasn’t working you’d have lights or codes flashing up I think. Does you’re light on the dash come on and then go off? Like the mot guys will look for?

In the Midlands so you’re a bit far away.
