Had a van hit my 184 yesterday whilst waiting at a set of lights. Impact jolted the car forwards. Only visible damage is a small mark in grey plastic just below the numberplate.
Estimate impact speed was less than 5 mph. Can't see any other damage inside boot or underneath the car. Bumper does not appear to have changed position as wheel arch panel gaps are still uniform.

Question is do I need to take it to body shop to check for internal damage?

You dont have to but there could still be damage behind the bumper And unless you want to pay for it to be fixed I'd make sure it is properly inspected before it is to late to claim.

Actually yes, you should have it inspected. While the damage can look very minor it can be much worse where you cannot see it. There are all sorts of crumple zones and energy absorbing metals behind the bumper that are easily deformed. This is why people are so often surprised after a light accident where damage seems superficial and yet the insurance company writes the car off. If they were to become damaged and you hadn't noticed and then had another accident they wouldn't provide the protection they are designed to offer and you could end up in much more trouble.

To be fair, at 5mph I wouldn't expect anything to be damaged at all 'behind the scenes', but as a general rule, if the impact is enough to mark the paint and move the car it should be inspected.

Any one know a good body shop to have the car inspected at in the Brownhills area?

Seat only have a body shop in Leeds!

Seat do that ensurance thingy, it's free so worth signing up and maybe they'll look at it?

Someone I know had the same scenario although it turned out the electrics were fried after the shunt so worth checking

I couldn't believe how much damage was done to the front of my Subaru when i 'nudged' a car in front (very frustrating) due to crumple zones etc etc

I'd get it looked at by a reliable bodyshop, but do it quick.

+1 on that. I had a rear end shunt a while back in a works motor, looked like just a slight scratch on bumper, but when examined by body shop various bits behind bumper were broken (I know, they showed me!) resulting in a new bumper and some other piece, cost around £600 iirc and that was a few years ago.

I had a rear end accident in my old civic 8th gen.

From the exterior it looks about £3-400's worth of damage, the insurers wrote it off at £6000 repair estimate
