Rear wiper not working

Hi all new member just sold my Mk5 golf and got Leon fr many year ago I had MK1 cupra great car the only problem I have the rear wiper
Intermittent but if tap around the tailgate catch it works I am sure I have seen this on other forums.
I have seen the locks on eBay 3 pin and 4 pin is the wiper wired to the tailgate so the wiper stops when the tailgate is opened.
