Remap PCP out of warranty

Hey all.

I've googled this to the n'th degree and can't find an answer to my particular question.

I've got a 2019 Leon Cupra 300 R ST. I'm seriously considering a remap, but have a few questions....

1. Is it OK to remap a car that's on PCP? The only answers I can see online is that it will invalidate your warranty. However the manufacturers warranty on the car ends in November this year. Does that mean it'd be ok to get the car remapped as long as I revert it to standard when handing the car back?

2. The car has the 7sp DSG box. I've heard conflicting opinions, with some saying DSG needs remapped for stage 1 some saying it doesn't. Does anyone have a definitive answer to this?

3. What's a reasonable cost for stage 1, prices seem to vary wildly online? Also is it necessary to use premium fuel once remapped?

Cheers!

1. I know people who’ve had their cars remapped whilst on PCP, given em back to the dealers and they’ve not even checked n accepted em back.

2. I’ve got a Leon Cupra DSG with a stage 1 and it’s perfect. The only issue is, without a DSG tune, it automatically shifts up, even in manual mode.

3. I paid £250 for my stage 1 map. I only use V Power now. Even before a map, people say only use premium fuels in Cupras so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for the reply man!

I think the only time I can see people having problems is with warranty claims, which are nowt to do with finance. So like you say... Could be ok.

Is your Cupra the 6sp or 7sp DSG? Seems to be people say if you've got 7sp you need a DSG remap. By shifting up, do you mean upshifting too soon?

£250 is very good. Ive seen anything up to £750 including DSG remap!!

I only ever use 95 RON fuel. In Australia I even used 91! My Cupra has been run on 95 since I got it a few months ago and I've never had any issues. Although I get zero pops/DSG farts. Absolutely none. Whether or not that's linked to fuel type though I have no idea. Think there's more chance that's caused by the GPF.

Mines the 6-speed DSG. The DSG shifts up when it thinks it’s time to shift up but it’s fine. I rarely use manual mode anyway. Would be nice to rev it out though. V Power is 99RON I think. If you’ve access to an OBD you can open the exhaust flap, amongst other cool mods, which will improve the farts slightly. I even get farts in comfort mode now. But I suspect your GPF will be suppressing it too. Could go for a res delete.

Worth having a read of the Revo blog here:

ECU tune developed on a Cupra with DQ381 7sp DSG. At the bottom of the blog, they state that TCU tune isn't required for stage 1.

You can use lower RON fuel, but need to use the correct map for this; however, higher RON fuel is needed to achieve the max PS gains with optimum timing. Lower grade fuels needs to adjust the timing to prevent knock, this lower power output.

There is no exhaust flaps on an R ST dude.

OP:

The Revo stage 1 is very good for the GPF cars.
You don’t need a DSG tune, but it does compliment the increased engine power.
Depending on which DSG tune you go for depends on how manual mode behaves, many make it full manual mode so you’ll bounce off the limiter at redline in M, but you can often choose this to your liking.

Id only consider Revo or TVS for an off the shelf ECU map for this car, or go to a reputable VAG specialist for a custom map such as Unicorn or MRC.
Prices would range around £600 I’d imagine.
DSG could cost you another ~£400 on top.

For the record my R ST had Revo stage 1 ECU and a custom DSG tune by Avon tuning to match Revo power levels.
