Hi all,
Just thought i'de post my findings after remapping my 07 Altea 2.0 tdi.
The very nice man from CUSTOM TUNING in West Yorkshire came over to Grimsby and did the job in under a hour and a half including test drive.
All in it cost 200 notes & a cup of coffee & has totally transformed the car.
Before the sweet range was between 1800 & 3200 rpm, then the engine sort of went off a bit.
Now she pulls hard from 1500 rpm all the way up to the limit (no need to take her there tho).
BHP up to 175 from 140 & torque up to 295 from 236 with a custom remap.
It has transformed the drivability no end, smoother & so much more tractable.
Anyone considering having a remap should go for it. You won't be dissapointed.

Happy days. :D

Sounds quite an improvement, but what about insurance? Does such a mod have to be declared?

If you want to ensure you are still covered after an inspection of the car in an accident, yep they need to know.
It is so commonplace these days that is is a small hike compared to only a few years back.

Yes, i'm going to inform them to be on the safe side even tho the remap is undetectable.....you never know tho.
Even if it bumps the premium up a bit it'll be worth it just for the drivability gains plus a few more mpg's if driven sensibly.

Who told you it was undetectable? It's a simple matter to check if the ecu / map is standard, and insurance companies love finding ways to get out of paying for a claim.

I'm not aware that insurance companies tap in to the OBD socket as a matter of course in the event of a claim but i hear what you say.
