Just wondered if, everyone with a stage whatever mapped car. Are you running it mapped sll the time or occasionally switch back to stock to give the engine a rest?

I have the APR v3.4 which has switchable maps, and no I don't think I've ever switched it back to stock, aslong as the car is well maintained and has all the supporting modifications there is no real harm in running the remap. It's like having a ****star for a girlfriend, if you're banging her all day long your junk is gonna get sore, if you tap it now and again it'll all stay in working order ;)

All the time mapped (stg2 Revo)

To rest your engine its enough to use it properly and not like a racecar all the time ;)

Also have good consumption when running slow in everyday use ;)

Don't worry

That's the sort of analogy I would have used haha.

I'll be doing 430miles to Plymouth tomorrow and 430miles back on Sunday, I'll be running S1 all the way unless I cant locate v-power when its time to fill up, then might have to switch it to poverty mode (not stock), but I certainly have no plans for that to happen.

Yeah mines mapped too and its too addictive to put my foot down, just with the oil consumption these engines have anyway, just wondered.

Yeah im interested in oil consumption post remap.

Since buying mine in May ive done about 1600 miles and the oil level doesn't seem to have changed at all dipstick wise. I certainly haven't needed to top up.

This will be the first long haul trip with the remap, so will closely inspecting the levels after each leg.

Map should mean less stress on engine when driven well as its requires less effort to reach desired speed/revs

Get the shell app for garage locations. I used it around Cornwall. Inlaws thought I was odd going 30 miles out of the way for fuel lol

I have stg1 revo. When I feel like I am used to the power I change to stock for a bit.

Actually on a serious note, MRC Tuning, one of the uk's top Audi tuners recommends Tesco 99 over Shell Optimax... they consistently get much better results on their rolling road from cars running Tesco99...

Haha i think i can only remember seeing 1 petrol station in the whole of cornwall.

I do have the shell app, finding a station is easy as ive been doing the drive for 14yrs now, just on the last trip both the shells i stopped at didnt have any v-max, third time lucky otherwise i was gonna just have to put in regular.

Ive not had to fill up en route for 10 of those years most recently coz i was rocking a 2.0 hdi. Only ever used to stop on the m42/a42 for a slash, apart from that all motorway bidniz.

And yea im hoping the remap does help it along with a bit more ease. Planning to report back how it all goes. First time in a while ive looked forward to the journey :)

Had mine done in May I think and kept it on mode 3 for 98/99 oct .I use Tesco 99 and seems good to me .
I've not gone back to stock ,just kept it where it is,I just give it the beans now and again like you do . The car doesn't use much oil,and not since the map either .

I always warm the car up ,but keep forgetting to let it cool down when I stop .

Tend to let mine run on for at least 60 secs once im parked up or a bit longer if i've not taken the last mile or so easy. Warm up is a must too.

I let the engine run for a few seconds, but more importantly, I keep it very calm and largely off boost for the last mile before home. That, combined with parking and 30 seconds of tickover should be plenty of time for the oil to circulate and bring the temps down. I never get any ticking after switch off and oil consumption seems to be ok, used about 1.2l in 8000 miles.

For warm up I idle for no more than 10-15 seconds before drive off, but keep the revs between 2k and 3k and only ever 1/3 throttle when cold. When it gets up to 90'c I gradually allow more revs and throttle input (rather than suddenly jumping on the loud pedal).

I think it just comes down to having mechanical sympathy and some sense.

This is what I use just as good as shell plus its a bit cheaper and more garages shell garages tend to be few and far between
