right this is a new one on me, just wondering if anyone else has come across this...

as mentioned in my newbie intoductions earlier i have just bought a 2001 cupra last week, very good price etc the only downside is it has no remote central locking key only two standard keys. no-one is really sure why no adverse history with the car or anything like that.

so i spoke to my local seat dealership and they advised £130 for a new key and programming, booked the car in yesterday told it would take about an hour. after 20mins i get a phone call telling me they cant get round the imobiliser ( the car is completly standard from the wheels up ) so i will need to bring the car back for further inspection at another 2 hours labour ( which they would charge ) and they could not be sure it would work.

when i said no, they agreed to not charge me the labour for todays visit but wanted to charge me for the key they ordered in for me! the key that was of no use becausue they could not programme it!! as you can imagine not impressed. has anyone come across this before or do we just have a useless seat dealer around by me?

Do both keys work the car?
Ie open it and start it?

If so search for flip key and use the transponder from one of the keys, in the flip key ( you will need the blade cut)

thanks for the repy, i have manged to get it sorted today by a local garage who do lots in the way of alarms / remote central locking etc. They fitted a remote central locking kit that i operate via a fob attached to my key ring. it is not ideal but it does the job just as well and i have a fob for both keys so al is good!

thanks for the reply though it would have been a good option if i could not get it sorted today. just suprised a seat dealer could not get past one of their own imobilisers. both keys operated the locks & ignition....strange one!
