removing A pillar trim with air bag

I need to remove the trim fitted with an air bag from the a pillar to route some wiring I note the fixing for this is under the air bag lable. What are the pitfalls of removing the trim and air bag. Any guidence would be appreciated. aggie

I fitted my bluetooth microphone at weekend at pushed the wire under the trim using a credit card, I didnt need to feed it too deep if that makes sense. I wussed out, didnt fancy removing it!!!

just underneath the black seal and between was all it needed!!

Just a matter of interest how did you connect the mic to the unit. My RNS 315 unit with built in blue tooth needs a wiring block to fit into the main block looking for a part number or supplier. aggie

mine was an aftermarket alpine stereo so the mic was just like a headphone jack and socket, even I managed that one without cocking it up!!

The air bag isn't under the a pillar, it's just the end of it, the airbag label pops out and there is one torx screw holding it, the rest is just pop on clips.

Hi Tomleg, If I unscrew the torx and unclip the trim will the air bag remain in the pillar and not cause me any problems? aggie

When I took mine off there was no airbag in there, I could see the bottom of it at the roof so it must be in the roof lining. I literally took out the torx screw and popped it off, it just interlocks with the dash at the bottom so slides forward to come off. Didn't take a picture otherwise I would post it, my parrot microphone is mounted on the top of the a pillar with the wiring behind.

ok Tomlegg I was going to push the mic wire under neath the trim with a credit card as previously suggested but taking the trim off would suit me better has I need to route a 12 volt cable from a smart camera behind the mirror down to the fuse board. I shall give it ago today. Cheers aggie

you need to pop the " air bag " label at the top off this is the left had side but the right is the same



T20 screw i think

then pull away and it should come out

air bag is up the top



the trim is held in with 2 sprung clips that tend to stay in the fixings in the a pillar so pull em out and put them in the trim when you thump the trim back



you can drop your cables down the gap & they come out at the back of the fuse box

Thanks for all the advice especially Mad Music, tomlegg and others for the advice a picture tells a thousand words. When I got down to it the job was easy peasy the trim came away without any problems and as you said there was no air bag to worry about. The microphone wire and my 12 volt feed are now safely hidden away. The only thing I need to do now is to connect the mic to the Quadlock connector via a 12 pin block which slots into the quadlock but I need to source this item, then bobs your uncle job done. Just to say that I am well pleased with the Seat Media System 2.1 which I bought off ebay it was plug and play with the exception of the mic Seat Spain. where I am at present tried to relieve me of 2000 eurs to supply and fit the system. aggie
