I was looking at my mouldy engine bay soundproofing(clipped to the underside of the bonnet) and the thought came in to my head of what it sounds like if removed completely? I quite like the noise of an engine (even a slightly uninspiring 4 cylinder!) and was wondering if anyone has removed it and if it adds anything to the "driving experience"? I have my engine cover removed and an induction kit installed hmmmmmm...

Got mine removed on my FR TDI, Along with my Engine Cover removed and Rear Interior Removed

Sounds quite abit louder

So it is Andrew just went out and removed it, much more induction noise! Have a feeling it might get a bit annoying but for the time being I'll just enjoy it, only takes 5 minutes to put it back!

Only downside is SEAT Dont like to paint anyting thats covered so under the bonnet is a different colour to car

Same if you remove rear interior

I was user the impression this helped towards preventing water getting onto the engine, and therefore coils, especially if you've removed the engine cover?

That's what I thought:confused:

I know some people remove it but get an extra part for the engine bay so that it stops the water leaking in? think a lot of audi's have it as standard

Aghhhh there is always a downside isn't there! So whats the best way to (cheaply) protect the coil packs and plugs? I am guessing its just stopping condensation from dripping on to the engine?

Any ideas? I am thinking that it only allows water on to the coil packs if the insulation has been removed and the bonnet is opened after recent rain. So I guess the answer is to not open the bonnet after rain!

Is a shame Seat were too tight to paint the under bonnet.

Removed mine for the initial reason it was holding water, sagging and scorching & marking my engine cover.

I read somewhere there are revised bonnet lining clips which stop watter running down the strengthening braces and into the bonnet lining and also prevent the bonnet lining from sagging.

Will try & dig it out, probably in SERE section
