Does anyone know how to remove just the surround from the wing mirrors ? Im admiting slight defeat, or is the only option to remove the whole mirror and dismantle it ??

I broke 2 nails ! I needed to sort the springy bits out as they were not adjusting. Im just wondering that now I have them off do I spray them gloss black, or the same colour as the car ? Seems silly to put them back on and do nothing.

Oooh...go gloss black! I'm going to do mine when I take them off to fix the fact that they won't adjust.

Gone green lol !! Bought some colour matched paint on monday that I was going to use for the spoiler. Seeing as thats getting done at the bodyshop it would be silly not to use it up. Even debating spraying my mobile phone lol ?!!

All done and all on. They go on alot easier than they come off !! Yup spiders are gone and it was well worth paying for a better quality lacquer varnish.

Hi all,
Firstly this forum is a godsend to really stupid with cars people like myself..
So MANY thanks to all for all the info I have managed to find/gather.

Thought I'd ask on this thread instead of cluttering with another un.

I would like to spray my mirror casings (on a x reg).. but am really not sure how you get the mirrors off.
Anyone got a bit of a how to/DIY guide? lol

Many thanks :)

1stly there is a small screw underneath each casing at the bottom. Then you need to pop the mirror glass out. Be really careful ! Get your finger behind the outer edge and then slowly push it out. It should pop off without too much force, then you can see which plastic clips you need to loosen and then you can remove the casing. It comes out in 2 parts. Hope that helps you out.

What you need is some high build primer - you can get this from Halfrauds. Give them at least 2 coats of that and rub back with wet and dry in between. Make sure you clean between layers with something like surgical spirit and then leave for as long as possible to set. When your ready to do the colour coat warm the mouldings up 1st with a hairdryer and then use several THIN coats. Then finish with a clearcote lacquer.

Yep got the plastic primer from halfrauds...
Looked mint with that.. gave it a few coats.. was looking good.
Then I kinda got carried away with the main spray..
Rather messed em up.. managed to sand them down and redo em but it def aint looking like a pro job lol.

Like Loops said use that as an addtional primer base. Seriously they will be fine. Rub them back again, apply a thin layer of primer, rub that back and then apply THIN coats of the colour and leave as long a time in between as you can bear ! Its easy to try to rush these things but, patience is key.
