Hi,

A little story with questions at the end...

I've had my MK1 1.9 TDI FR for a couple of years now with only 1 significant issue: tyres. I've gone through 10 in 40k miles! I like to drive 'enthusiastically' but that's a crazy amount of rubber! To shorten the story a bit - I put my Leon on a hunter machine and discovered the rear passenger side wheel is wonky which is throwing all the other wheels out of alignment too.

I then took it to a local VW specialist but they couldn't see anything obvious, their best guess was that the rear axle is a bit bent and quoted me over £1k to replace it. Obviously I'm not paying that so I'm currently looking to get a used one off eBay and get it fitted for less that £500 all in.

Firstly I'm worried that I'm gonna get the axle replaced and then find out it's the hub so not sure if I should just replace both?

Secondly I wanted to double check - are all rear axles the same for Leon MK1, Golf Mk4 & Audi S3?

Cheers.

sorry, I meant A3...

I've found a complete axle from a Cupra R, a bit pricey but looks complete with hubs & discs.

hmmm, just spotted that my existing rear discs are not vented - If I get vented discs will the calipers need changing?

can't find the option for PM now I'm up to 10 posts! Very keen to get my axle sorted so let me know, cheers.

It takes 24 hours once you've hit 10 posts to become full member and be able to PM
If you drop me a message tomorrow when you have this feature and i'll reply with all the details and prices, etc as I don't want to clutter up threads with selling bits

Problem now resolved, all 4 wheels are now pointing in the same direction! My wallet is crying in the corner but my tyres should now last a bit longer and the handling feels good.

Thanks to Ronin & friend for the axle setup.
