Hi Guys, the weekend is nearly upon us, well it is for me as I work shifts , and I would like to install my reversing sensors.

Normally this isn't an issue because locating the reversing bulb/wire is easy as it's often on the car pillar. But with the Leon it's on the boot lid cluster of lights.

Finding out which one is the reverse light isn't the problem. I will just use a multimeter, but where I am going to tap into it is.

Because the boot lid loom runs at the top

It's gonna be near impossible to tap into the wire, without damaging the roof liner or plastic clips.....

So my question is, does anyone know of a better place to tap into the reverse wire.

Even if it means running a length of wire to the front of the car under the dash.
Anyone know where this loom of wires from the boot, appear at the front....

Would the reversing bulb have its own fuse... Either under the dash or on the drivers side fuse panel... Mmmm must go and check manual...

A hint in the right direction would be greatly appreciated...

I will be doing an install guide as I do it...

Thanks in advance...

I gave up trying to tap into the reversing wire in the tailgate when I fitted reversing parking sensors. In the end I ran a wire along the bottom of the car clipped to the inside of the plastic undershield. I then tapped it into the reversing light switch wire on the top of the gearbox. It was quite straightforward.

Thanks, I figured it would be something like that.
I have, just had a quick look at my gearbox and can't find and switch or cable for that matter.... Any chance of a heads up as to where I would find the reversing switch..... Thanks

I have the DSG if that makes a difference...

I can't really help you as mine is manual with the switch towards the front half way down. I couldn't find it at first so I looked at replacement gearboxes and switches on eBay and from Elsawin shots online.

Ok thanks... I even looked at the wires coming off of the gear stick selector. There's a few that run under the dash...

I'll get the in the end....

Ok it's the end......

Had another play and I've managed to pry open the boot trim enough to expose the wiring loom/plugs before entering the car....

So now I should be able to splice into the reverse light when I find out which one it is...

Let's hope drilling holes and pushing the sensors into the bumper, isn't a headache either.... As I know some bumpers have foam behind them....

I will just my install on this thread. No point starting another...

The wiring loom runs down the left hand side of the car and around the rear wheelarch where you can access it fairly easily.

The colour of the wire is not the same as the one in the hatch.

You need to remove the rear bench seat, the lower C pillar trim and the boot side trim.

There are a few threads on this site that might help, I can't add links, but the titles are

DIY: 5F interior trims removal guide

Good luck,

Tony.

HI its me again  ,

You need these diagrams

https://www.upload.ee/image/4654459/rear_seat.PNG

https://www.upload.ee/image/4654453/lower_c-pillar.PNG

https://www.upload.ee/image/4654464/rear_side.PNG

These where originally posted by simmo1, I followed these when I installed sound deadening to the boot area and had no problems, just a bit time consuming.

Gonna have to do it all again soon as I also want to access the wiring to enable me to add a
LED reversing light under the rear bumper - lets us now which wire you tap into mate.

Thanks

Thanks for the info, very helpful but I think I'm going a different route...

I am gonna run the power feed wire from the reversing sensor box in the wheel well up the side of the boot trim and through the roof to the grey/white wire just after the junction box.

427a69b74e6bd7dd85c2aee98f15bd57.jpg

In fact I'm running a second wire for the display which I'm gonna mount in front of the third brake light upside down attached to the ceiling. The image then gets reversed again when you look in the rear view mirror seeing left and right as it should be.

This is from when I installed it in my Toyota Auris

And you see this

Ok the numbers are still backwards but it's, easy to figure out what's what.....

Ok so today I finally installed my reversing sensors....

f9270c3ff29ed5f68f1195e29cd6d568.jpg

I decided to route my wire up the side.

3667c4c9d0fc5282c63d8fe815418944.jpg

Pulled back the boot seal from bottom to top.

There seems to be more than enough gap to feed the wires into.

2a4ec23422cb71a4265d4008e09b7849.jpg

Popped open the trim at the top.

1b6dd6e91d4d044d68838cbc12cf46fd.jpg

And pulled off the rear boot trim. This just pulls straight up. No screws here..

Then run my power wire and the cable for the display.

ad77b3bc728b71663b8cbf5aaa53ea74.jpg
19daa81e4b23c5140b82b6cb3de27458.jpg

Used a zip tie to help pull the wire through...

2607b4e169e769a5567333d7edb64b7a.jpg

Then out here...

I then tapped into the grey/white wire.... And decided to splice it in and solder it...

4b56ce8e092148e22d1ec3f3041bcabb.jpg
d297bf86616ba33e028c9c9923d4cc65.jpg

Then secure it and cover it in tape.

10a74e11f96a2f9a4b55e3fce19c229a.jpg

Wrapped it all in black tape and covered the power wire in a shroud.

I fixed the display here....

503d1300a807679e9c5f4fdb4b23cf60.jpg

With that all secure it's time to get under the car.

6f5873cfe3512fe01e74de8816358d6e.jpg

I removed about 9 torx screws and this made the bumper flexible enough to get my hand in to manipulate the wires.

Next I marked out the where I want the sensors.....

26259e3409e62aaf725d42edad15ad66.jpg

And drilled the holes...

b4f018d9c2a9a25b177fff1cf6f953be.jpg

Installed the sensors themselves and run the cables to the rear left of the car where there is a handy grommet into the boot..

d23df5af88c5b679dfb7453bee90b436.jpg

Pulled all the wires through and routed to the module.... And earthed it behind the plastic side trim with a crimp.

244fa9982a99f4aed3e617e762ce877f.jpg

I could've put the module in the wheel well, but I'm hoping to obtain a spare wheel in the future.

With the sensors in.

9cb2d3b95432e3710193f8494fa7537d.jpg

After that it's just a case of putting it all back together once tested...

I did go back under and seal where the wires come through with sealant..

951bac12152f593521f64e2036093171.jpg

This is what I see in rear view mirror......

5609f23565df5123c905c7e15958277d.jpg

I reversed back to read 0.3m and then went to measure. It was 0.33m (33cm). So it over reads which is good.

All went to plan. No issues. Just requires a few hours of free time....

Great job mate, pics are also very useful - one question - did you disconnect the battery before soldering ?

Thanks once again.

No. No need as there is no power to the cable until it's in reverse. And that wouldn't happen with the boot open anyway.

I don't know what sort money you've spent on doing this mod but I got the dealer to fit the Seat approved rear sensors when I had it serviced earlier this year.

Price for sensors/fitting at that time was £279. (includes painting)

They are not however linked to the Infotainment display so I don't get any visible display, like if they were factory fitted, just audible, which ain't to great, if you've got the radio on you have a job to hear it, speaker is located behind boot side trim panel.

That's the same price and limitations I got when I had Honda fit oem ones to my Accord.

Those too where only audio from the boot.

I got mine from amazon

Already the same colour.... I bought this particular one because it has the display too...

The rest of the cost goes too labour I'm guessing... It is a few hours work after all...

How much would it be if you had it linked to head unit....?

I take it yours are flush fitting too...

When I originally placed the order with the dealer I just assumed they would be linked, very disappointed when I collected the car, especially at that sort of money paid.

When I spoke to the dealer about it not being linked, I got the impression that this kit was not designed do so.

Yes they are flush fitting sensors, appears to be no different to the factory fitted ones I've seen.
