Revo or GIAC re-map

Starting to think about a remap and its seems these two companies are the best in terms of expandability and options.

For example the revo selector switch is a handy tool, and GIAC offer similiar.

Not sure who to go with but speaking to some members who have a GIAC map, its appears to be superior to revo?

For example GIAC have a map which you can turn on to give the cupra 160hp and return over 35mpg. Also it doesnt increase the flash counts or something like that making it undetectable to dealers?

What are yor guys views and experiences?

dont know about giac but im happy with revo, surely they wont be that much different. the 160bhp thing sound like a good idea though aslong it can be switched off instantly when i get bored.

Almost everybody will claim their map is perfect and the one you should go for. :D

I'll probably be looking at getting Revo on mine sometime this year just because I want the switch and there are a few Revo dealers near to me. Also, I haven't really heard that much about GIAC but have heard loads of good things about Revo.

I'm a loyal APR fan, but if i'm lucky enough to buy a cupra then this time i'll probably go Revo, they are always on the Ball and i think thier support is excellent. Their power gains are up there with all the others too.
Giac have had some good reviews but lack of dealers would make me weary if none within 100m mile. The APR code is doing the business too.

You have shortlisted the 2 choices myself and a lot of other people I know would choose to be honest, and having been in a Cupra with a GIAC Hammer map with stage 2+ mods and a Cupra with Revo Stage 2+ map with stage 2+ mods, there are plus points to both.

The GIAC map can be switched when the car is being driven, so you can go from valet (Granny) mode to boy racer at the push of a button. I am sure that the GIAC Cupra returned the best part of 40mpg in Granny mode. The flash counter does not increase with GIAC and there are other preset options with the box if you want like map only mode, pump mode and valet/granny mode.

Revo on the other hand cannot be "hot switched", but it can be personalised using the select plus box to do similar things to the GIAC map. You could drop timing and boost to similar levels to Granny mode in the GIAC map for valet purposes or similar. or up boost if you go to a 1/4 mile or rolling road day. Like GIAC, Revo does not affect the flash counter and there is a £50 upgrade available if you go to stage 2 with a full exhaust and uprated intake and another £50 upgrade avaialble to go to stage 2+ by further adding an intercooler and fuel pump.

You might also want to consider APR however as they have a good following and provide a lot more than just software - take a look at ZBoyds beast as an example with its APR exhaust, APR Fuel Pump, APR Intercooler and APR Code. The only non-APR thing on his car is the intake (which is a Dbilas).

Another option worth considering in my opinion is Bluefin based on the fact it can be sent to you and you can follow instructions to do it yourself.

For what its worth though, Revo cars are consistently more powerful than GIAC/APR/Bluefin/Other Cupras when tested together on rolling road sessions, and the fastest Cupras on the 1/4 mile run Revo software.

Apparantly, the GIAC delivers instant switch capabilities. A permanent dash interface can be chosen but will give away the game if you wrap it around a pole. Insurance wont be impressed. You can drive through city and town in a normal 160bhp car, reach a safe stretch and select 320 instantly and blow away most things on the road. Even cars that may be faster get caught by suprise. because the original map is left in place it shows as being untampered with. Any map can be selected and left in place or you can leave control in place to change on the move. Detune your pride and joy when leaving in someones elses care, valeters, wife whoever.

I might consider it myself one day!

Yep

Good luck in making it permanent and pretty

Why? You would be silly not to claim to your insurer that your car has been remapped even if you drive it in "Granny" mode.

I have seen this happen and it really does just take a second and can be done when driving.

The ECU if taken out and examined in detail will show that the car is remapped even if it was in Granny mode when it crashed.

This is true, everything can be detected. I would never suggest someone should make a fraudulent insurance claim. However in the normal run of things most garages will just take a diagnostic reading which will show normal, leaving warranties in tact.

Provided you drive the car in to the garage without a major fault and its in "stock" mode ;)

They are gonna know something is up if they test drive a 160bhp or 320bhp Cupra :)

It wouldn't be going to a SEAT garage otherwise. [B)]

I think the major players in the mapping game are those already mentioned. Personally i have used Revo and APR in the past and got mixed results. Both offer good customer care which to a lot of people can be the cruncher when deiciding who to use. I decided to go with GIAC this time round - just to be a little different and not follow the crowd. Although they are not as main stream as Revo or APR, and as said dealers are a little spread out, i have been very happy with their willingness to to give me (the customer) what i wanted.

I recently achieved some very good figures with my set up:funk: which i think stand up very well against the other tuners claimed results. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=206795&page=13

GIAC have already responded to this by offering me a further code enhancement should i wish to take things further so i really can,t complain. At the end of the day you have to make an informed choice and stick with. Good luck:thumbup:

10. Blade – mk2 leon 362.5bhp & 391.3lbft (in 6th gear and it was still spinning the wheels)

Hi Blade, are these figures from the race map + the Full Milltek. What else is needed to get these figures. How well does the car put this power down.
