Since having my exhaust and stage2 on my car my fast fans are kicking in every 2-3 min when only stationary for about 3min and they have even started kicking in whilst driving at 10-15mph. Sometimes the temp gauge starts to rise very slowly never quite reaches 100 degrees an doesnt beep but it creeps up when stationary and the fans then react a little slowly to bring the temp back down.

What could the problem be water pump, thermostat, fans...............

anyone had this problem since fitting stage 2

I doubt stage 2 software would cause this matey, it sounds like one of the more usual suspects. could be the pump starting to shed bits of the prop.

That was my first thought... water pump impeller. If the temp rises I'm pretty sure that the ECU will start to pull back a bit to stop temperatures rising too much.

I had my water pump changed last week. I had never had any symptoms of failure, gauge never read above 90 etc, and when it come off, part of the plastic impeller had fallen off.

Changed for the metal typed impeller now:)

Yours may well be failing but more drastically than mine hence why your getting high temps/fans.

If your close to the 60k mark, its best to get it in for its cambelt service/waterpump sooner rather than later:)

Got mine done, cambelt/waterpump inc service for £425:)

Well karma strikes again, driving up the motoray into work and seemed to lose boost, next second beeeeeeeep and 120 degrees.bugger.

360 for just the pump/cambelt fit? What about the actual service?

I thought £425 was a very good price for all in. (JBS)

no service involved mitchy! ive a set of ngk iridiums sat here pining at me to be fitted too! Just off the phone, ive got her booked into a non dealership garage for £90 labour and I supply the £28 pump and a genuine belt. Result, whats even better is that ill be putting the plugs etc and give her a new gargle of oil while shes there.

forgive me for adding a bit of logic here.
leon cupra R has the same engine as the audi TT 225?(well some of them) doesn't it already come with the brass impellered water pump(not a prop brend ;) ) according to my awesome receipt mine was fitted with a TT 225 water pump.

jase i was referring to the little bits of plastic inside the main body of the plastic impellor, effectively losing all means of forcing water forward. (i know how the impellor works jase!)
this pic is of an e36 beemer, damn work firewall!, but im talking about the little slats breaking off)

well i 'm not going to argue over the fact you can't type what you are thinking;)

here's a 20vt water pump from my car at 57,000 miles.
the plastic impeller is bust.:p

adding the image would help

Jase, im in work with a whopping great firewall and certain sites are blocked, mail and photo sites mainly so the e36 was the best i could manage. And as tonka said, its the vanes anyway! haha.

btw Im going to have to drive like miss daisy until this is fixed, I take it as long as I dont push over 90 degrees all wil be fine, the bits of plastic which may or may not have sheared off wont cause any serious issues?

wouldn't it depend on how big a piece has come off? could it not cause the coolant lines to block causing no flow=very hot engine=BIG BANG?
not that i want to scare you mate.you do a fair few miles don't you.
personally i'd borrow the KA and get it done asap.
if it is indeed the water pump.

mate, i still have this odd temperature problem.

only started seeing it after FMIC was fitted. However, I don't see the problem anywhere near as much as you now, by the looks of it. Only in traffic for 15mins+ do my fans kick in lots.

I have metal impellared waterpump - all cambelt etc changed.

i can't see it being stage 2. Just that now you are getting more power out of the car it's probably getting hotter than before (seems logical?) and so your fans are kicking in more....?
