Hi - looking for a bit of advice :)

I've got a 2005 MK1 Leon FR (150 bhp).
Recently my car has started to 'jump' it's revs.

It's not happening all the time, but often when pulling up hill or sometimes when I need to accelerate a little harder. It doesn't appear to be at the point of changing gear but what happens is that at around 1800rpm it'll suddenly jump up to 2500rpm and then settle back down after a second or two. The car doesn't pull any faster when the revs jump but the engine pitch is definitely higher.

It almost sounds a bit like the issue in another thread which related to this happening in relation to the clutch and it might have been the clutch sensor in that thread, but the clutch isn't involved here so I'm not sure that's the issue here.

If anyone has any ideas as where to start that'd be appreciated.

Cheers

Andy - yeah pretty much - it sometimes doesn't happen up hill if I'm just gradually accelerating.

Thanks the the heads up. Doesn't sound like it's going to be a happy time for me though.

I guess I'll need to look at getting that changed fairly soon then and from what I've seen it's labour intensive :(

Go for an uprated clutch if your planning on getting more power in future. I spent £1122 on my clutch (Southbend Silent SMF Stage 2 Daily Driver) and garage charged me £110 to fit it (5 hours labour). Mines now remapped and the clutch is holding up perfectly however much abuse it throw at it :D i should expect it to at the price aswell lol.

What's it like on idle? As the throttle bodys on these are electronic I belive it may can stick at any time if there's any shiettt* in there, its worth a bit of wd40 or carbon cleaner to be sprayed in there also how long has it been since uve had it last serviced, check uve got a strong spark throughout and the other things you would check what's related to the symtoms of a jumping rev before you rule out the clutch however its also a possibility.

This is a diesel. No throttle.

I wouldn't use WD40 as a carb cleaner. There are lots of dedicated carburettor cleaner sprays in the shops and online stores, use one of those.

- and no spark plugs either

What poor advice has been given, clearly hasn't read the thread properly.

How can a jump in revs be the throttle body? No logic.

Clutch is slipping and there can be a number of causes for it.

TB can stick and could show a "jump" when it suddenly unsticks so there is logic there.. somewhere..

But you`d have to have a TB fitted first :cartman:
