New to this forum everyone and hope someone can help me, Two weeks ago i brought a secondhand Altea FR from Richard Alexander in Huddersfield, I arranged to pick the car up a week later only to be told that there was a recall on the car for a sensor on a air bag so they kept the car for a few days longer,Ok no problem but then on the new day of pick up Richard Alexander told me there was adminstration problem beteew them and Volkswagon and it could be up to 2 weeks before it could be sorted out,On the grape vine I have now heard that they have gone bankrupt, Is this true? Will I loose my money?and today I received the log book for the car in my name ,Is it mine? Can anybody help please!

I guess from your amount of worry you paid before picking the car up? If the V5 has it in your name then it's your car at the end of the day and it needs to be released to you.

I'd be surprised if they have gone under, was down there the other weekend having my wing mirror replaced but you never know with car dealers these days.

Sorry Guys , I've only paid the Deposit at the moment of appox 5% so not all mine yet?

Don't know yet , I'm giving them two more days before I go and try to get it back.

Have you asked them what difference a admin problem causes you to get your car? There after service is just as bad as their sales by the sounds of it, ive had nothing problem problems with them trying to fix a electrical fault which they never fixed and its now out of warrenty

I have heard something similar, although I heard they were trying to sell it, perhaps thats why they are attempting to delay your sale until this possible deal goes through. No admin problem could delay the sale of your car for so long unless it was financial. Check with another dealer regarding the 'recall' on the sensor - you might find thats another delaying tactic.

why don't you tell them you will take it as it is ? having said that if they are about to dissapear then you are probably better off trying to get your money back if at all possible. I presume these are a SEAT dealer, if so try contacting SEAT customer care to see if they know anything, or search the web.

How do I stand holding the Log book , anybody know ? I did call Seat customer care and they said that they had heard something was going on but everybody keeps everything close to there chests. Also I called Richard Alexander today and they said end of the week hopefully.

Bit of info in the industry news today regarding Richard Alexander.

Changes due at Richard Alexander group

A buyer could be announced for part or all of Yorkshire dealer group Richard Alexander at the end of the week.

Sources suggest that Sytner Group and JCT600 are front runners in any acquisition, already with the support of Volkswagen Group UK.

Richard Alexander, headed by Richard Smith, operates four VW, one Audi and one Seat franchises in Yorkshire.

A VW dealership in Otley closed on November 14, when its lease expired. It was due to move to a new site in Menston by now but the project has not been completed and has been "put on hold".

Audi UK declined to comment when asked whether it expected Richard Alexander to continue retailing new Audis from its Harrogate site.

Richard Alexander Group said the company is "going through some changes" but blamed an inability to deliver and tax new cars on system errors at Volkswagen's head office.

Its latest accounts were due to be filed at Companies House on October 31, but have not yet been received.

Last week, the company told the local press: “We would like to reassure customers that we are operating business as usual from Leeds, Harrogate and Huddersfield and these sites are currently absorbing servicing and repair work from Menston."

However, sources have told AM that Volkswagen Group has replacement retailers ready to take over the business, rumoured to be Sytner or JCT600.

ZBOYD, Just been on to Richard Alexander to find out the latest, Sounds like all the salesmen ect have gone, Talked to the Service side who said pretty much what you have said above, now just waiting for tomorrow,They don't even know if they are going to get paid !! Looks like all I can do is wait.

Well rang Richard Alexander last night and It seems they have been taken over by the Sytner Group as from Monday morning So things in my department are looking better. I have to ring them on opening day to sort the car out,Thanks everyone for your input.

Another one bites the dust.....

At least there are delers waiting to take them over. With what Sytner Audi Reading charge (£125+VAT an hour) I'm not surprised they can afford to fill others shoes. Problem is we may loose dealers with a fairer pricing policy for the extortionate prices of Sytner.

Sadly the situation RA found themselves under appeared to be a lack of cashflow.

The issue appeared to be that Volkswagen Financial Services would not release any cars as they were rightly concerned they would not get paid. Any monies that were banked by RA were not being released by the bank. The bank were receiving their money but VWFS were not. Hence why they stopped releasing cars to RA.

All part and parcel of the banking problems affecting lots of businesses at the moment. However RA couldn't of been in good financial shape to get into this situation.

The biggest concern was customers such as silverman here, whose deposits were at risk. Not a good situation all round, and that’s why VW Group were desperately trying to support a sale to another group.

Sytner has obviously stepped in, but I bet they got the group for a good price.

Hopefully this guarantees customers deposits, which can't be a bad thing.

I fully agree that today we can breathe a big sigh of relief that customers will get their cars, and I'm really happy on this basis. My long term fear is that in time the brand and the public will suffer as Sytner is not that competitive.

It will be interesting to see in time how the banks determine which businesses will be supported through this difficult period. I think we will see a lot more going the same way, and all because the banks wil not lend responsibly to enable viable businesses to continue through a tough patch. If they've been on a downward spiral business wise for months then fair enough, but in many cases banks are being deeply uncompromising considering the bail out they've just swiped into their 20098/9 bonus pot.

In the meantime great news for Silverman, and I hope for the sake of the current staff at the dealership that they get a chance to stay in work.
