RNS315 / media system 2.2

Hey guys,

Am I right in thinking this is the same thing? I'm looking to buy it and retro fit for my 08 Leon FR. It has (as far as I'm aware) DAB, Bluetooth and sat nav... + mp3 & aux in, correct? If anyone could shed more light on this to make sure I buy right then great! I'd love it to have a USB slot as my FR doesn't but if not I think I've read somewhere that there is a separate unit that I can buy to connect a USB through the glove too the unit? Does it matter if I buy a VW or seat unit apart from the changeable start up screen?

Hi B

RNS315 is the hardware and Media 2.2 is the software.

Mine is a factory fit job so can’t help much on the up grading but you may find some answers in this US VW site as much is the same for the Seat except a few marketing differences.

Chris, thanks mate. Makes sense that it's firmware. Understand it a bit better now. Found a guy I've been messaging on eBay, says he's got an rns315 with sat nav and DAB but no Bluetooth. Any units with all these exist?! If not might sacrifice the sat nav. Seems to be a nightmare to get everything I want!

Okay he messaged me back saying its got DAB, latest sat nav, and Bluetooth inside with seat media 2.2 firmware so it's a seat model. This is what I want! Can I retro fit, is the above true and am I good to buy and go if I get the fascia from Dave at seremoters? Sounds too good to be true at the minute! Just waiting for him to give me a price. Do I need to get a DAB aerial separately? Thanks in advance!

Cheers raylee, just gave them a call and they don't advise for Seats. I asked them about the rns 315 anyway though and (for future readers) they said that there are different models which aren't distinguishable by model numbers or anything between each other, other than they have it or they don't. E.G. Some have Bluetooth and sat nav but not DAB, some have DAB and sat nav but not Bluetooth. So finding one, which is seat, is gonna be tricky and or expensive! Not sure about the dab antenna too, that's next on the list. If anyone can shed anything else on this great! Ta.

Offered at £450 + £30 shipping...satnav systems said over £1k with fitting...I'll try get him to put it up on eBay officially just to be safe.

Hi

I was told recently that the current Leon has 3 aerials, the long one on the roof, and a circular one at the base of the long one on the roof and one in the rear heated window.

The long one on the roof is for DAB and the circular one is for GPS with the heated window one being the good old FM aerial.

I don’t know if this is right or not because I was not aware of one in the rear window but it makes sense.

Cool. Will have to look into this, as mine doesn't have a DAB aerial I'll have to trial and error after ive installed it based on the sticky guide here.
