Hi chaps

My 56 plate reference sport has an RNS510 retro fitted. Ok the radio, navigation, cd/DVD player all works fine but I'm sure I can get more from this unit.

What can I add to or adjust to get more from it. For instance how easy is it to connect iPhone to it for music play back etc?

Any clever tips or tricks for things I prob didn't even know about?

Hi,

If you have a VW unit (with SD slot) look for latest firmware, which is called 4120 if i remember correctly.
Then you have radio text, and other features on navigation. Also is a bit faster than the 3*** firmware versions.

The latest maps you can get are Navteq V9. These are West Europe so i assume the UK is also included.

For iPhone connectivity you need a VW premium bluetooth kit which adds bluetooth connectivity and also plays music. You get a bluetooth icon under the MEDIA menu.

Other nice features available on the web are:
-Custom POI's with petrol stations, ATM's and speed camera's. I have a Dutch version with custom BP, Shell logo's and so on, really like this when viewing at the screen.
-You can connect any video input on the connector on the back, like rear-view camera or even digital television (at least in Holland you can).
-You can create your custom boot logo or choose a random one over here: http://www.netdata.be/iso/
-Hook the car up on VAGCOM to code the unit into your car, so it can work with the large MFD screen and make the parking sensors work (if you have them).
-Select numerous menu graphics on VCDS aswell, I now have sportline because it matches the best with the Seat interior style but other styles are also available.

Any idea where i can get the costom POI's from?

Seat version looks better anyway as the colour of it matches the grey facia as to the VW one which has Black outline which doesnt really do much for the grey facia.. Only thing it doesnt have is the SD slot.
You can Copy CD/DVDs onto the 30gb hard drive (probably already knew that).
Let me know how it goes with the bluetooth thing, thinking about getting one myself :)

Hi Matt

Yes I know you can copy CD's to the hard drive, I'm not sure how the maps are loaded on mine I'm assuming they are also loaded into the hard drive as theres no disc present.

I want to get the bluetooth working and to be able to play music from my iphone through it as priority.

I'm sure there are many hidden gems I'm yet to find. I'm going to pull the unit out this weekend and have a proper look see what else can be connected into it.

I found an online user manual (pdf) which I'm also going to have a skim through

Thanks,

I have the SEAT unit (no SD slot)

Would the bluetooth kit - like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:RTQ:GB:1123

be a simple plug and play job as stated in that listing?

Probably does, I have the same 9W7 unit although I understand there are different manufacturers building those units. Looks familiar to the one I have though.
Only thing to find out is that it runs on your Seat RNS 510 because they have VERY old firmware and there havent been updates like the VW units use to have. (Seat runs 1xxx FW compared to 15 versions newer 41xx FW available on VW units).

You can enable hidden menu in the adaption tab on your navigation cluster on VCDS (I think module 37)

BTW, just realising when you enable your hidden/secret menu and hold the setup button for 15sec you can find there which firmware your RNS 510 is on. Could make the search for a bluetooth kit easier :)

I have tried on mine! The seat version will only go to 1026 firmware!! So you cant get full postcode search video in motion etc! I have added the media in unit which works well with ipod. Thats all you can do as far as i believe i have been on vwnavi looking asking dealers etc no one knows

im guessing i cant update my Bluetooth module as it hasn't got the white dot matrix MFD, i would of liked the Bluetooth music streaming and phonebook scrolling/ dialing on the RNS510 :|

to anyone who hasn't got the video in motion all you do is google "VIM rns 510" and find and download the file, burn it to disk at your lowest speed! put it in and your all done.
