Okay mate, cheers :) Well we shall see whether it fits if I get chance to do it! Although looking how the 2 bottom screw holes will line up, am not sure it will...

I'm also interested in this!

And if it physically fits then it would be great if you could check how the bluetooth works and the USB port where the cup holders are.

I'm sure the rns510 is going to need some sort of code though. I can't imagine you can just put an expensive piece of equipment like that in any car and it just works.

Even the little radio in the Ibiza wanted a code from me until I turned the ignition on. I presume if I put my Ibiza radio in another Ibiza just turning the ignition on wouldn't be enough to get it going without I code.

Hopefully it will work with no probs!

Code is built into the unit apparently :)

I think that's correct, but the unit checks with the cars ECU to see if it matches. In which case it would realise the ECU is different.

If it does fit correctly into the slot, I'd be suprised if it actually works without some sort of modification done with VAG-COM.

Hopefully I'll be proved wrong!

Hmm we shall see, hopefully if they don't work, it won't stuff up my existing radio.
I think there was someone with a FL Leon who has put an RNS510 in and didn't need coding as such :)

RNS310 - No Go

Well guys,
Mother is taking the Leon to a VW dealership tomorrow for a test drive in a new Golf GTI :funk:
So that meant I only had today to try the RNS310.
I was going to do a guide on how to do it with pictures etc but it didn't fit, as we assumed.
The unit itself powered on, asking for the code, as said, it didn't like the Ibiza ECU, I couldn't be bothered to faff around trying to get the code for it as the unit didn't physically fit.
I like a decent ICE system in my car, but I wasn't willing to hack half of my dashboard off to make this thing fit, plus I'd of needed to buy the GPS antenna from eBay.
So, here you go guys, yes it powered on, but I don't know whether the bluetooth etc work, I had a look at the pin outs and they seem the same so I don't see why not, but I'd prefer to put the 500 notes for an RNS510 towards another decent Sat Nav unit or change the car for one that it fits in.
Thanks for the interest and help in this thread guys, hopefully it will be of use to people who ask this in the future :)

Thanks for the update. Just out of interest did the screws on the side line up? Can't quite see from the pictures.

Yeah well, nevermind :) that's what this forum is for!
Both radios worked fine after they were put back in their original cars :)
We shall see what happens, if my mum gets this GTI tomorrow, I'll be taking over the finance when she retires anyway so I will be able to have the RNS510 then hehe.
Damo, just out of interest, what MPG do you get out of your ED30? Is it the same engine as the new GTI's? As they say 38.9mpg combined? Seems high?

My overall average is circa 30mpg, Danny.. On a run sitting at ~60 I get about 35mpg.. Dont forget mine is mapped though.

I think the mk6 GTI has the newer TSI engine, not the TFSI that the mk5 Golf/mk2 Leon has.

Thanks for clearing this one up. It's a shame it doesn't fit. I didn't realise it was that much bigger. It was worth a try anyway!

Thanks

Thank you for try.
I think our radio has same size with skoda yeti's and skoda octavia's radio. And they have special double dins like rns 510. If I have chance to try I will post the photos.

That looks good. You can see where he has had to cut the dash to get it in but I guess if the job is done properly it is all good. I have a feeling the facelift ibiza next year will have the multi media as an option.
