I seem to have a similar issue with mine and have since I've had the car, about 9 months now. Only notice it when turning sharp left going fairly slowly, say pulling out of a T-junction tightish to the kerb. Can't really work out exactly where the noise is coming from but sounds like somewhere at the front. I may be imagining it but it may have got slightly worse in the time I've had the car as well.

I've had new front tyres of a different make put on while I've had the car (were Dunlops, now got Falken FK452s) and pattern looks quite different, but it didn't improve or worsen the noise and it doesn't 'feel' like it's coming from the tyres, more like something else rubbing but I'd describe the sound as hollow as well. And if it was the tyres wouldn't it be the same when turning both ways?

From what I've read on here I thought symptoms of a knackered CV joint was a clicking noise rather than rubbing, and that a worn wheel bearing would make a sound when going in a straight line as well and at higher speeds, but could be wrong?

I'm starting to think it may be a warped disc or something as someone above suggested, but it's going in for service and MOT in a week so will mention it then and see if they can find anything and let you know!

Hi there, it's comforting to know it's not just me then ! - when you say it could be the other CV, i had this done a year back, although they just did the cv boot kit (gaitor, clips etc), do you mean this or do you mean something inside the rubber gaitor ??

How much are we looking at there (if it was the case) ?

It doesn't seem to be getting any worse in the few months i've noticed it, so am i right in thinking "drive on" unless it sounds like it's getting worse ?

After paying £1100 for work on the car (80K service, Cam Belt renewed, water pump replaced, nearside CV boot kit, rear offside suspension spring, new alternator, 2 X new tyres, wipers, brake fluid), i'd probably have to file for bankrupcy if i had to pull out any more money on it !!!

Best Regards,
Andy

Hi James, i think the only thing on our side is the fact that the noise doesn't appear to be getting any worse, however tyres can now be ruled out as i think it would be massive bad luck if it did it with 2 different sets of tyres !. Mine is not really noticable at all above say 30mph, i can only really hear it when doing a 90degree left at about 10 to 15 mph and sounds "cardboardy" and hollow, like a rumbling and in synch with the speed of the wheels (i.e. more rumbles per second as the wheels get faster !). Really hard to describe the noise, but i did suspect it wasn't the tyres !

Best Regards,
Andy

Was there ever a solution to this? I have a noise (which I can only describe as a loud stomach rumble) whilst turning left, seemingly coming from the driver's side front wheel arch....
