Running water inside the doors!

When it's been raining, I have noticed that water runs out of the bottom of the doors (mainly the front ones I think) and where I park on a slope on the drive when I move the car you can actually hear all the rain running down the inside of the door panels! Has anyone else noticed this? I realise it's supposed to happen as there are drainage holes in the bottom of the doors under the door pockets. Also when you open the passenger door after it's been raining all the water drains out and you have to stand back so your feet don't get wet! I don't want to end up with a rust problem at the bottom of the front doors! Even when the car is parked almost level at the top of the drive, when I roll forwards on even a slight decline it still does it!

Yeah its normal.

I always look at it like the cars having a wee after a long night...

Just a drainage system.
Wouldn't of thought they'd do it if it was gonna rust.

Drainage! There are usually one or two holes at bottom of door to let water escape. Sometimes the holes get blocked by residue and then after a while water builds up in the door. So, don't worry, it is normal. If you feel it is excessive, maybe your window seals are faulty or need replaced? ? ?

Just thought I'd check it out - thanks for putting my mind at rest! I have had loads of cars over the last 20 years and none have ever peed on my feet before! It's the only car I've ever experienced this with.

Must be a White car thing as mine does it as well - also parked on a slope,
shouldn't think its a window seal issue as its a 60plater (3dr)

Mine is an 11 plate - just over two months old. You can literally hear the water running along and trickling out the bottom of the door! So if the window seals are not at fault, how on earth does the water get in?

Its not galvanised.

When dry you could spray more wax oil in if you wanted. . .

VAG cars are galvanised now. My mk4 has drain holes in the bottom of the doors and sometimes i see water dripping from them, no biggy i don't think.

I think it's a 3door thing as my 5dr does nothing like this

Mine is a 5dr - only noticed this with the front doors though. It seems worse after rain at night when the car is still wet with beading in the morning. It also does it after I wash the car too. It has the potential to leave black water marks in a line on the sills so I try to wipe any water up that collects there.

when i wax my car is when i notice the water pouring from the drain holes as i gets annoying when you think you have got every last drop of water untill you go to wax and theres dirty big water droplets on the sill :(

must be a design fault somewhere - when you lower the windows it does clear most of the droplets off them so it would appear to have no major gaps between the rubber & the window to allow significant water penetration

Galv or no Galv seems a strange design feature nonetheless as galvanisation only works for so long then that breaks down granted it does work for a very long time.

I'm sure only Audi's are galv'd. . .

that was years back, like before 2000. You can still get rusting on a galvanised car if you break the galvanised barrier on the metal i.e a severe stone chip will damage the galvanising.
