Hey folks, noticed rust within the attached pic, at the back of the drivers side arch, where it meets the sill. Anyone know the cause or able to suggest a remedy. Will likely take to a local body shop but keen to understand what might be required beforehand. Cheers, Ian.

Excuse my ignorance, is that the bottom right of the rear near side door? The rust seems to be affecting that as well as the sill. What year is your motor? Normally I would've thought that sort of thing would indicate a repair, but not sure.

No probs, I wasn't very clear. It's the off side front wing, where the wing meets the sill. Car is 57.

Right, yeah. Does seem odd that it's affecting two different panels in the same area. I would have to wonder if it's had a minor repair in that area as that seems really strange to me.

Saying that, doesn't look like it's been repaired looking at the finish on the sill, could be wrong though, could be wrong on both counts!

Problem with the leon,s and most vw groups is the inner liners holding all the crap behind them,I take mine off now and again to clean them up and dry them out

As above the arch liner inside the wing is holding water and crap against the paint and so its going to rust. removing the insulation inside and drying it out is the only answer on this and a body shop to correct the existing rust.

I know it sounds daft but they do keep more of the crap out than in if you look at show cars they take them out but that's mostly to slam them to the ground and they don't get used over the winter time so like me come the spring time take them of and clean up what's behind them just helps with keeping the rust away
