Safety Recall

We've not had the letter either - and got ours in July 04, so would have thought we'd be high up the list (unless they're working backwards ....) Need to call to book the 30k service (eek!) so will ask whilst I'm talking to them ....

Mine is from September '04.... :(
Probably they are dealing with Audi and VW first... :(

Do I mutter about my discs here I wonder... I did somewhere else. The brake judder was cause by the rear discs being scratched is what they said [at 12,200 when it happened]. They had never warn correctly in my view with one side looking rusty, where they never made contact. New discs and pads on both sides which are marked up as Audi / VW, no mention of Seat and it wasn't warranty, £230 or so. Expect I'll get told off, that I was ripped off etc.

The judders gone now so :).... and I did get to talk to a Altea owner in the flesh rather than on the net. She was getting 48 MPG from her 1.9 TD.

Least us DSG people missed out on the flywheel thingey.

BTW my current project is trying to fit a sat nav removable device under the headend with the suction bitty ;)... need something to stick it onto and that something has to be stuck to the car... I'll let you know when it doesn't drop off :).

Went in this morning (son loves visiting car showrooms!) and booked the 30k service. They've also checked and ours needs to be checked. It'll be done during service - and potentially it'll take TWO DAYS to do the change if it needs doing. I asked for new wiper blades too (seems daft you can't do them yourself!)

Eeek on the brakes, I think ours are going to need replacing soon, and the tyres too ... going to be expensive!

Can you tell if the recall affects your car by the date of registration.?
A2day- That clutch judder issue is the same on mine and has been there since a few K miles, Now 29K miles on the clock. Have you had yours looked at.?
Is this anything to do with the recall.?:)

Mine is 2.0TDI Sport June 04, I have Loads of the common Faults. Escaped with the Fuel Pump recall, Went in to dealer but checked out OK. Boot Lock not working all the time, Cruise control Intermittent Fault, probably get them to check these out at the 30K service. Valeted the car today and alloys look as though there Blistering in places.? (alloy corrosion possibly.?) Not sure if warranted, Anyone know if Alloys are Warranted.?
Think its still a great Motor Though. (Ex V5 and Cupra 20VT owner)

I've news from the recall... actually not good ones.

First I do need to to change the twin mass flywheel... because you can be called and eventually the car could not have the part with problems.

It's a 6 hours service to change it.

Now for some really bad news... since they have to take apart the gearbox, they inspected the clutch...
The words from the guy were: "I haven't seen such a thing...."
The clutch is almost destroyed... just after 50.000km.

They will install a new one, but the old one will be sent to analysis.
Eventually they can charge me for a new one it they can prove that the damage was done due to misuage from my part! (NOT)

Also I complaint about the radio... that from time to time started playing... (with the car locked and me away from it....).
They ordered a new one... :) At least there is here some good news! :)

If everything goes according to plans I will get my car on Friday.

I will keep you posted.

Cheers,
A2day

Ok guys, mine is booked in 28/7 for the 30K service. Have just noticed the back pads are almost down to nothing.? The Front pads after 30K still look brand New. I was quoted £220 to get all pads replaced but am going to ask why the rears are worn and the fronts are not.? some kind of fault I suspect.
May be getting alloys replaced under warranty also. corrosion from inside. Boot locking problem. Safety recall check on the Twin Mass Flywheel also to check if it needs doing. Will be happy when all of these issues are put to Bed.
Car is a fantastic drive and still think its a great Motor.
A2Day did you get any News on yours.?:)

On perhaps a side note I did see a new Toledo today turned into a decorators van... slightly amusing... they were working in the grounds of a hospital and I was going to say "I gotta an Altea" but didn't.... not toos sure whether Seat have in mind their nice sister Toledo becoming a painters estate car :).

Yes I've some news.
(sorry for the delay, but in the between I got married!)

The SEAT service managed to install a new clutch (free of charged), replaced the flywheel and also the radio.

I've also complaint about the drivers seat (which seems to be not properly fixed to the car) and they ordered a new one. I will return there to install it soon.

So, it was a good response from that dealer... way better than the Audi (my previous car was a Audi A2) that even with 8 visits the problems remained unchanged. :(

Mine as inspected at the 30K service and YES it needs the Flywheel doing.
They will have car at least 1 day possibly running in to second day.
I told them not to worry about timescales, just want it back in 1 piece.

Boot Mech will also be replaced at same time as hatch fails to open quite a bit.
Rear Pad wear, they said general Wear and Tear.! Was not going to argue with them as Car Now done 31K and only thing ever had to purchase was rear set of PADS so cannot grumble at that.

I did try to suggest to them that maybe the back disks were faulty and that had worn the pads.

Was thinking about how the ESP works.
Anyome know if this apply's brakes automatically, I know it has sensors on each wheel when car is going in to skid so thinking logically it must use brakes to control wheels.?
