so I was cleaning my car today and wiping the interior with a mircofibre. Went over the screen and a tiny bit of grit in the cloth has put 4 deep scratches in the screen. Tried to take them out no chance. So replacement screen it is, can anyone tell me if a replacement is a simple plug and play swap? Or are there codes or anything?

Thanks

I believe if it’s like for like it’s a straight swap. The screen doesn’t have Component Protection.

If however you have a 6.5” screen and want to take advantage of upgrading to an 8” screen, there is cutting involved behind the screen so it can fit.

If you have an older MIB1 screen, then if you want a bigger screen you’ll need a new glovebox unit and loads of other stuff to swap and coding etc.

Just as a future precaution, its worth getting a screen protector for these screens as they are so soft and easy to damage. You could buy a cheap screen protector for an old iPad or tablet on ebay and cut it down to size yourself to protect it.

Thanks for the advice mate, are the units coded ? Ie if I put a new one in will it require a code?

I have the MIB1 unit with the smaller screen. Was already planning to upgrade it to the MIB2 system for CarPlay etc but hadn’t factored in the screen change. Are there any major benefits of the 8” screen over the 6.5” (other than the size)

Just size, to be honest it looks great, but I miss my old 5.5" unit's proximity sensor (6.5" has it still, 8" doesn't). Number of times I've had to double tap to do things. Suppose I'll get used to it.
