Hi all, I'm stuck on what to do. Looking at getting a new Leon fr 1.4. Decided I want white with the 18s, sound pack and sunroof. But can't decide wether to go for the 3dr, estate or hatch. I like the look of all 3. The only thing stopping me getting the 3dr is I'm now old 31 this year and just started seeing a girl who I like who has a 4 yr old so that could be an issue having only 3 drs and as going to keep for 3 years could potentially have a kid within that time. Hate getting old lol or do I do the mad thing and buy a Ibiza cupra!

I'm one of the few who dislikes the appearance of the SC. So I say 5-door or ST. Both have the same legroom and space in the rear, but the ST has a bigger boot.

I seen an estate today and it looked good. I thought yeah I'd be happy with that then he got a load of kids out of the car and thought is it to much of a dads car!

I'm fortunate to have exposure to these cars all the time and have just went from the 5 door hatch to the St.
I also don't like the sc,the proportions for me are all wrong, big long bonnet with a real short rear,it just doesn't look right.
The 5 Dr is a good looking 5dr with a fair bit of room in the back even with my seat in the correct position for me and I am 6 foot 3.
However I have just taken delivery of a 17 model st fr technology and I have to say I'm really starting to like it,a colleague told me that the St drives better than the hatch to which I thought was rubbish but he is right,it feels more composed on the road, quieter, more refined.
So in answer to ure question and ure circumstances I at this moment would go for the St.

I have a Nevada White ST with panoramic roof, feels like a different car to my old SC 3 door.

If you're not sure go with the 5 door, allows you to be more practical than the 3 door in the long term but without diving straight in with the St? I have a 5 door with a 9 month old baby and so far it's more than enough, just can't wait for the fr to arrive.

Definitely one of the 5 door options as it's a pain if you've got passengers on a regular basis in a 3 door.

I bought a 5 door hatch, but I sometimes think I should have gone for the ST.

I can't really see any downsides to the ST. I think it's as good looking as mine, it's only slightly longer and anyway there are the parking sensors, and you've got a bit more luggage room if you need it.

for me ST = granddad car
5dr = dad car
3dr = best looking of the 3 (the rear end on a 5 dr looks like they couldn't be bothered)
but its all personal preference

I sold my 5 door mk2 Leon three years ago as I got fed up with taking wheels off my 1 year old daughter's buggy just to get it to fit in the boot.

Just traded in a jag XF as my now four year old daughter is after her first bike, and my one year old son is getting his first trike. The saloon boot is too narrow.

Bought a cupra St for the above, as it is much more practical and I have the simpler options for a roof box.

I've got the Cupra ST and it's like a Swiss Army Knife. It can handle any situation as well as being fun to drive and properly practical. I have no regrets. I love fast estates anyway. I think they're cool......for dads.

I've got the 1.4tsi ST with the Pan roof and love it. Like others, it's not only pratical but looks good and handles brilliantly when pushed. Have also had loads of positive comments on how good it looks.

Another one for St ;) not tested 5d model but the St boot is cavernous and rear room is plentiful. Perfect for family trips and when car is empty pushes on well and doesn't behave like a barge ;)

ST is plain ugly, it's for grannies, no offense to owners and I know how practical it is but it just looks bad. There's a 5-door FR where I use to park my SC FR and I usually get comments on how mine looks better than the 5-door. But the 5-door is still a nice car BTW.

And since this is about kids and not about looks, you don't have to take looks into account. We're currently expecting a child and I am going to keep my SC and see how things will be with the baby in a 3-door car (I even created a thread recently, asking about baby seat in SC). If it's a big trouble, then I'll probably swap it for a 5-door Leon/Golf/Megane/V40/etc. or a small crossover like Mazda CX-3 or the likes. There will be a Ibiza-based crossover later this year, so worth waiting for that too.

5D. I've never understood the appeal of 3D cars. The 5D will handle the kids, colleagues, friends, family, etc.. Gives you the practicality of being able to just throw stuff in the back seat, too.

they look better plus the B pillar is further back giving you better visibilty.

I know the looks thing is subjective but if you need the seat further back then the B pillar blind spot on 5dr cars is a big issue for me.
