Screen replacement (not whole unit)

HI,

I have cracked the touchscreen of my 5F0035869A MIB1 unit. It's the entry 5.5" screen and I'm happy with the system in general and don't want the hassle of changing to the larger screen with the glovebox stuff.

Is it possible to just change the screen by opening the unit?

or

If I get a replacement unit, will I have to get it coded to the car, and how would I go about doing that?

Thanks!

If you are not afraid of basic tools, buy a used MIB1 unit and reposition the LCD from it. Such an operation will not require coding. A new LCD costs more than a complete second-hand radio alone.
This is just my opinion.

That's great advice, thank you. I see one on ebay that says NO CODE. Would that just work or would it still require coding to my car.

I'm happy enough to get it and swap the screens over if I have to pay to code it.

It seems to me that this radio does not require special coding, but I am not 100% sure. This is where someone else needs to confirm this.
If anything needs to be coded, I would do as I wrote above.
