In my opinion, the best plan is to use VAG G12+, G12++ or G13 and use think 50% G13 and 50% deionised water (unless you know your local water is fit to use, ie not hard or chalky).
What is in the car right now? If it is pinkish then I'd reckon that it is G12 etc and can last for life of car.
If it is any other colour, flush the system through a few times with "good" water and refill with G13 if buying from a VAG dealer. (G12, G12+ G12++ should only be available on line as old stock, so unless that is a lot cheaper it would be smarter to buy G13 from any VAG dealer)
Edit:- As your engine will be belt driven, maybe just get the coolant replaced when the belt is replaced - I'd guess that that has already happened in the past for that car?
The car came back with lilac antifreeze in it after having the cambelt and water pump changed but was pinkish before hand,so i have taken your advice and flushed the system out and got G12 from my local dealer and replaced with that and used deionised water.
