Cool, have to check the basics first.

My money's on a faulty cradle.

Just had a thought...
If you know someone with a working aux port on their car (or take ti to the dealers and stamp your feet til they agree to a simple and quick test), you could always plug your cradle into their aux port and see if it sounds ok.
If it does, then it's your cars wiring that's at fault, if it sounds crap then it's the cradle.
(saves on the cost and hassle of buying a new cable)

If the ipod works with headphones, the issue doesn't lie at the ipod side of things.

get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo cable (has a headphone jack on each end) (couple of quid from maplin, or insist that the dealership provide one for diagnostics), plug one end into the ipod, the other into the 3.5mm aux in socket in the car.

If it works properly then the issue lies with the ipod cradle system, get that replaced under warranty.

If it desn't, then theres a fault with either the socket itself or the cabling between the socket and the headunit, or the headunit itself (unlikely if it only sounds crap with the ipod) eitehr way, it's a warranty issue and they must sort it.

Not sure I agree with that, the headphone output maybe fine but the output at the bottom of the iPod might be faulty or it might not be sat in correctly if the right cradle adapter isn't used.

yeah i think that sounds about right.

Many thanks for your help! Really want this fixed after paying so much money for a car which is fine but the factory fitted doesnt work. Great.

When i adjusted my volume through iTunes and play it my car, the songs where all screwed up high pitch noise heavy bass etc. but then I adjusted the volume again to normal everything went back to normal. :D

Ok, so i've done what nightflight told me. And amazingly...it came out PERFECT, nothing wrong with the volume of singing or any other parts of the songs. Put the iPod back onto its cradle...problem arose again.

Many thanks for your help nightflight! (sorry dont know your name)
Gonna phone up my dealer and ask for a replacement cradle i think, as it is clearly not my ipod and the SEAT cradle itself.

Just as a final check, do you know anyone with the same ipod as you? It may be worth trying another ipod in your car just to be absolutely certain it is the cradle. There is a remote chance it is something funny about the socket on the bottom of your ipod.

But if another ipod does the same, the dealer has no argument.

I assume you have checked the jack and USB on the cradle are plugged in properly?

Yeah done that numerous times and so did the guy at the garage. Just been fiddling about it all now, that im home.

Biker, about the other ipod. The only other ipod thats been in the cradle was the dealerships nano. Which isnt a fair contrast as mine is the classic one. But i think my boyfriend is gonna bring one home from work and i'll try that out. Won't go phoning up the dealer yet though.

hii :)

It might be possible that were the aux and ipod connection ports are, that cable that powers them is loose and jump needs a little wriggle or final click home... You could either mention this to your local seat dealer or just pop it out and have a go yourself :p

Chris

no worries =o) hope you get it sorted.

Only obvious thing i think it could be is if it has a dock adaptor bit, if it's got the wrong style dock adaptor fitted (eg, for a nano, when you're using a classic) it wouldn't fit properly.
Can you control the ipod from the headunit?

Hi

I have experienced exactly the same problem as you and the cradle has been replaced under warranty twice now. The new cradle which was fitted about a month ago seems to be working fine this time.

Hope you get this sorted soon......

Speaking of what you've said, i've literally just said to my boyfriend that i think it may be the wrong cradle. Because the guy at the dealership used a nano and when i checked on the seat accessories site there were 2 versions with one clearly for the nano.

So i think that is a definate valid point. The only thing i cant control is from the steering wheel controls apart from turning to volume up and down, i cant skip or scroll through songs via the steering controls. Does that sound like i've got the wrong one?

You guys have been a really good help to me!:D

That aint right, I have the kit and all works from the steering controls, it seems you are onto something hehehehehehe

would've made much more sense to make on unit with a choice of bottom plates, like the standard apple design. are you really supposed to buy a new cradle everytime you change your ipod?

You should have a couple of different adapters, they come with the cradle kit.

Yeah i realised last night that all the ones i have are for the 1st generation, 2nd generation and 3rd generation nanos and one small little back piece thing for another ipod. But i think it definately seems like i've got the wrongtype of cradle.

Do you think i'd just be able to exchange it?

Turns out from an email from Pinchbecks that i do have the correct cradle. So...that kind of puts me back onto the same track again....:censored:

Yeah it is correct unfortunetly lol.

Gonna test out another iPod though at some point and the guy that emailed me back about the adapters query is gonna ask one of the technicians about the way which you suggested just going through the aux port.

Hopefully find out eventually
