Hi, I have a SEAT (2009) Leon 1.9 Reference in Metalic Black

However unfortunately I've damaged the front bumper and front right wing and need to replace them. I was wondering is it possible to buy a Seat Leon Mk2 bumper and first, fit it properly, then replace the fog light grills with the normal grills?

Are the bumpers from a standard Seat Leon Reference the same as the bumper for a Seat Leon mk2? I understand that the mk2 has different grills. Does it have the same fitting/dimensions and is it simply a case of replacing the grills on the left and right?

I tried to attach images but couldn't.

Thanks

Not quite sure what you are asking. There are 3 different bumpers for the Mk2 Leon, the standard bumper fitted to all except FR and Cupra, FR / Cupra and the BTCC bumper.

There are 3 different versions of the standard bumper, 07/05-03/09, 03/09-02/10 and 02/10-05/10.

A FL bumper won't fit a pre FL Leon properly without changing the headlights / grill and vice-versa.

The fog light grills are different on the pre FL and FL bumpers.

Hope this helps

Okay so then its a bit more complicated than I thought, I was trying to attach images but the forum won't let me.

How do I go about finding out the exact bumper that I need? Where is this information?

Im trying to find a bumper that is the same as my own - but the only ones that seem to be available to buy second hand and not brand new are the Mk2's

So the bumper I'm talking about is a standard bumper for MK2 models, (I know what the other ones look like especially the BTCC ones, but it's NOT any of them) just the standard MK2 one that has grills at the left and right for foglights, my Leon isn't a MK2 (It's a 1.9 TDi Reference, 2009 (May) so, 03/09-02/10, it came with absolutely no extras) but from looking at the bumpers they look exactly the same in regards to shape the only difference is the MK2 standard bumper has room for foglights and what I'm asking is, if I buy this, will it fit A ) my model and B )can I replace the grills so that they are just normal like that of the Reference?

A bit of confusion here. The Mk2 Leon came out in 2006. It was revised about June 2009 and that is known as the FL (facelift) model but still the Mk2. As yours was registered in May 2009, it is probably the pre FL model as it was likely to have been built a few months earlier and I think the Reference model ceased before the FL came out.

Your bumper is probably 07/05-03/09. Bumpers with fog lights are the same as ones without, there are different grills to fit accordingly. I can see no reason that if you bought a bumper with fog lights, they couldn't be removed and new grills fitted.

To help identify the right one, the part numbers for the bumpers are :
07/05-03/09 ... 1P0 807 217 AA
03/09-02/10 ... 1P0 807 217 CK

Well yeah in that case it must be pre-FL.

Would I be right in saying the grills can be removed but the actual fittings for where the fog lights go cannot as they're apart of the bumper? I mean I'm searching on ebay and there are bumpers that say they don't have any grills but they have still have holders for where the foglights would be and I'm not sure that these can be removed.

In regards to the part numbers, where can I search these, on an official seat website?

Does this help?

The grills are detachable. I've not had the grills off so I can't be certain but there aren't 2 different bumpers, one with and one without fog lights, just one bumper for all, so almost certainly the fixing is part of the bumper, the non fog light grill just fits over the fog light fixing.

A lot of people selling parts list the part number in the advert, I thought it may help you. To be certain which yours is, contact the Parts Dept at a dealer with your VIN, they will be able to confirm which it is.

I'll send you screen shots of the parts numbers in full or just select a part number from the pic.

Cheers for the help guys,

In regards to the pic, I am particularly interested in part 18 - 19 of your picture where the grill actually fits onto. I am in need of a whole new bumper - just thought there was a difference between those with foglight fittings and those without or if it was just a standard all for one bumper but you could choose between grills for foglights and grills for no foglight.

I just checked there now, and the grills are non see through so I assume that it's just the same bumper all for one but the difference is if one chooses to have foglights then they can just get them and switch grills? Either way if it has a the fitting - it will be unnoticeable anyway as they're non see through right?

So the question is now, will the bumper fit? If yes, I'll just buy it.

It's the only bumper listed for 2009 other than FR/Cupra or BTCC.

Variables to consider are headlight washers and parking sensors. Do you have any?

None of these! The only thing I was worried about was the grills. My bumper is badly scuffed and cracked, and it would just cost more to get a new one than it all repaired.

According to the parts program ETKA, all variants are priced at 338.20. I'm not sure whether that's euros or £ as i've only started using the software.

Put a request thread in and ask if anyone out there has a spare one laying around after having put on BTCC bumpers.

The pic shows both grill types are interchangeable within the bumper.

Both showing at less than 10.00 £/euros

I've got a price on ebay here for 100£ and it's the same colour - I'm getting some other panels sprayed so, worse case scenario I'll be getting it sprayed again.

What month was your car built?

Facelift or pre facelift?

I don't know about built, but it was bought in May 2009 so I assume shortly before that.

Pre-facelift goes to 03/09 and fl from there to 05/10.

Does your tailgate have a metal surround along the edges or is the edge glass?

If it's metal then its preFL.

I'm not sure what you mean, how can I check? Looking underneath??

I'm sorry but I still don't get it. Are we talking about the black bit? Where are the 'edges', by the wheels or near the lights?

If we're talking about the black bit, mine isn't like that, it's all one colour.

Will I run my hand under the bumper and feel for metal or glass?

Sorry....
