I'd say my self the stage 2 210+ tdi would take the 210+tsi due to te torque of the tdi engine.

Yes the lack of traction on the tdi would give a big disadvantage but once grip has arrived the tsi would get reeled in. Power to waight ratio is particaly the same so it would come down to driver plus torque so I'd put money on the tdi.

That's just my penny's worth people under estermate the good old tractor engine a fair few people have throught they would leve my ibiza Cupra tdi stage 1+ but they forgot about the high torque :)

The tdi engine was the future till they started putting stupid dpfs on and gunk building egr valves

Lol I know the numbers but numbers dont always add up.. I reckon there will be too muxh torque in the diesel will struggle with grip plus think we both have dsg so its totally down to the cars..

Wasn't meant to be a digg mate. I'm just not comfortable with it. You're absolutely right about the 0-60 being legal.

Personal pref :) I'll see if I can get that Dynolicious run on that private road for you.
To be honest I find it hard to pull off the line with this much torque without spinning or bouncing.
I probably need a good few mods yet to the handling/mounts before I can set good 0-60s.

332ft:lb torque on a FWD is quite a lot no matter how you look at it.

Looks like we have a good debate/money to be earned situation here with some bets on whats what lol

The torque is crazy. You know how the DSG sometimes leads a life of its own right? It all of a sudden wants to go and responds to the slightest breath on the pedal. When that happens now...it's MENTAL.

It does look like that! I mean there would always be questions around tyres, driver aptitude etc etc. But it would make for a good comparison.
Having had the TFSI...I can definitely say that, seat of pants, that this one is wallops faster. Not sure about the tsi but it only 11hp more.

The TFSI died after a certain point. This one just keeps pulling and pulling.

I have a standard 2010 FR CR TDI 170 and all I can say is that it’s a great engine.

Smooth, reliable, fast and great for everyday driving on the open road. Around town etc I can't see why it make a big difference if it’s a petrol or diesel as your not flooring it about and the 170 gives performance and great MPG no matter how you drive. The CR TDI is a better drive for longer trips in that the grunt makes its great for lazy overtakes and performance is not bad at all compared to most cars.

I’m not making out its faster or better than the Petro FR though as I am sure its a much quicker car and I am sure the handling is nice too as the TDI seems slightly nose heavy when dipping into tighter corners from speed as the TDI lump is a big beast. Also I can assume the power delivery is smooth and responsive and the extra revs would make the petrol much more fun to drive if you had a bit of a lick on.

If a well built, nice, quick (not fast) car is what your after that’s good all round with speed, looks and mpg then the TDI CR 170 is a hoot and I love it.

If speed/handling is your ultimate goal and you can dig a bit deeper every time you take it to the pumps then the petrol would get my vote. Plus I bet you can get nice results with tuning plus petrol engines always sounds better than a diesel!

I picked my diesel based on the fact I do long trips and I also sick of rising fuel prices so want the best mpg I could.

But if I was looking for a very fun car and the speed/handling was my main goal, id be looking at other makes of cars rather than VAG as they are heavier and a bit soft compared to other rivals like a Renault Megane but you would be compensating it on the build quality/refinement the VAG cars give.

I also think people seem to tarnish the MK2 Leon with the same brush on interior. The Pre FL Leon although similar are miles apart on the interior.

When I fist went to get one, the local dealer had one and it was a late Pre FL model and I was instantly put off as the interior was such a step backwards (had a 2009 VW Scirocco GT at the time) but once I sat in the face lift model the difference between the interior on my VW and the FL FR inside was very much the same. Only the door cards let the interior down in my opinion on the FL Leon and the slightly large plastic centre console, near the handbrake/gear lever. But for the money you can beet a Leon for spec and looks compared to other VAG cars hence I bought one! :D

Sorry for the long post and slight off topic too :)

Very good comments my auntie has the older model and it looks horrible with that metalic effect centre console but the new one (like mine) looks alot better with the dual climate and nav in gloss black

Yeah, in fairness, mine is the Sat Nav one so has the large sceen and stuff in there which make the interior centre dash much nicer and in line with the Audi/VW models imo.

I think your gonna be happy with either one to be honest as the FR FL is a nice car inside and out and you see a lot less of them then you do say a Golf GTD (altough, this is a lovely car inside and out too but much more expensive for not alot more if you spec then like for like) and VW Scirroco or Audi A3 TDi as so may are company cars so the Leon looks good and different.

I was sometime wish I went for the DSG gearbox though sometimes as I do some miles it would be nice to sit and have a nore relaxed drive with auto gears rather than manual buts I was always worried about owning a DSG after the warranty runs out as I plan to keep the car for over the three years since new. I am sure they are fine but luckly the spec and price for my car came up and was too good of an option to pass up.

Mine is in red andwith black 18inch alloys (Orions) and looks lovely. White/red/Black seems the most common colour I see though but looks nice clean and with the black accents too.

Sometimes I wish I got a speed blue as its a nice colour and is a FR/Cupra only colour (as is the orange) so your less likely to see many around.

My CR TDI 170 is a just gone past 36k and has never failed me yet. No rattles (well, nothing your wouldnt get in a VW/Audi) no breakdowns and got better once the miles came on it and the engine wore in a bit. Also great at pulling when its full of people/luggage too but I am sure the petrol is good here too.

Not driven both but have had a sporty (if you can call it that) 160bhp 270lb/ft diesel hatch and now have my mk2 leon fr pre fl.

For me if you enjoy 'driving' a car then i would go for a petrol. Nothing like winding her up to 5k rpm and above and putting a smile on your face. I have nothing against diesel, my last 2 were diesel, just think you can get very bored with them very quickly as the power is always there.

We changed because the wife stopped doing a 30 mile round trip commute and she now commutes to London. I drop her to the station and back everyday (only a 3-4 mile town journey) and the diesel would never warm up in time and i noticed the fuel economy dropping dramtically. Don't tend to get this with the FR unless is is freezing outside. Combined with the lower cost of petrol vs diesel financially it costs about the same. The only difference now is i get to have more fun at the weekends if it takes my fancy.

+1 for petrol
