I was about to order a Leon ST when I got concerned about whether the LED lights were easier or harder to fix up for crossing the channel. I am aware of the "
stickers" solution, but the LED lights looked as though they might need many tiny
stickers very precisely placed !
Found this thread, and it helped me a lot, but the previous post's simple assertion filled me with no more confidence than the dealer's assurance that they don't need tweaking for driving on the other side of the road. But the biggest puzzle is the OP's description of what he read in the manual, because the manual I read makes it clear there is NO "tourist mode".
The idea is that YOU DO DAZZLE oncoming traffic a bit, but not badly enough to be illegal in the context of allowable temporary use. It makes it clear the dipped beam is not "flat", if you move to another country you ARE expected to change the headlamps.
So for your holidays the only
sticker you need is a "post-it" tab to allow quick reference to the relevant page in the handbook, to show to the Gendarme when he pulls you over.
The good news is that VAG manuals improved in the last 10 years ! For my 2005 Passat there is a (hard to find and even harder to reach) lever that removes the kerbside "lift" in the dipped beam. The handbook doesn't mention it, and I didn't find a dealer that knew about it either. Only the VW forums told me about it. Which is why I'm very glad I found this SEAT forum (this is my first post).
When my (factory order) Leon arrives I'll experiment in the hopes that masking just one of the multiple LED units removes the offending part of the beam, and report back.
