CONFIRMED: HID's with no projector headlights are going to be an MOT failure.
If your just wanting to change the bulbs: 7500K are going to be the only legal ones!!

Sorry for sounding like a car no0b. But what exactly does that mean?

Are the night breakers no longer suitable?

xreyuk, the "standard" replacement bulbs are fine. Such as Nightbreaker, Ring, Philips etc. No problem whatsoever, just a direct replacement.

It's only when you modify the lighting system by adding the aftermarket HID kit hardware such as a HIDS4U kit, which means adding ballasts that are wired into the cars electrics plus the special HID bulbs etc, that you open yourself up to these new MOT laws.

Also, the standard headlight reflector isnt designed to work with HIDS as far as I understand, which adds to the glare that these kits might give out. That, and not having them re-aligned properly after fitting, which is a problem too, for other road users.

Thanks ... Said it as I should have!! Lol!!

I hear standard HID with ballast on a projector lens will pass no problem, it is to do with the spread of light from the head-unit!!

LED Sidelights fitted :)

Epic win! These look brilliant!

Do you have a link to the bulbs you bought?

thanks

That's the link. When you turn on the ignition, they bring up an error, but if you turn on the engine, wait a couple of seconds and turn the lights on and off (sometimes have to do that twice) the error goes away.

I'm just thinking about the first time a service comes and I have to explain that to the guys at SEAT. I'm assuming there won't be any issue with my warranty?

On a side note, is there any clarification about LED sideilghts being legal? Some places I've seen said they aren't, others have said they are as long as they're yellow/white, so any ideas?

Thanks a lot, will have a look at these.

I hate the sidelight errors. If people have eyes (a must for driving), and half a brain (unfortunately scarce on our roads), then they should spot that their side lights are out without the car having to spoon feed them.

Luckily my Clio doesn't have any warnings, or the dash would light up like a Christmas tree when I turn on the ignition!

Ta :)

Whats the best main beam bulbs to give a nice white light gunna buy some sidelights but want the main beam lights too

Before I went HID, I used RING SportzBlue for my dipped beam, and for my full beam. The bulbs themselves are coated blue, but they output a white light. Cheap, and much better than Philips ones IMHO.

:)

I just installed my main beam nightbreakers today, and can definitely see a yellow tinge to them. Going to see what they look like at night, and if they're still quite yellow will try the philips ones or another make.

I take it these will fit and have no issues with the canbus Ebay Link Here

I've not tried them in a Leon (yet), but will be doing towards the end of the week. They are 80W, so you shouldn't get an error, as the system will error if the power return is low, so it thinks the bulbs have gone.
Don't take my word for it though!

Will update when I've tried them also!

Your best idea is to go to a shop that sells them & try them whilst you're there.
Alternatively, if you're going to buy a set online, just to be on the safe side go for "Canbus Pro" HIDs and ask the seller before you buy "if these throw errors, will you accept them back?"...

I don't envisage that you'll have problems with errors, though! Reason being I tried my non-canbus pro HIDs from my Clio in my FL Leon 2010 today, and they worked fine, no errors :)

Let us know how you get on!

All,

I've asked Rik this question too, but does anyone with aftermarket HIDs in their Mk2 have pictures of where they mounted the ballasts? I want to fit them like.... now ... but can't find anywhere to mount the ballasts :(

Thanks

I have mounted/sqeezed my ballasts in the gaps at the top of the wings (roughly where the VIN plate is) nice and secure.
