Has anybody else got the same problem my car is a 64 plate ive had it from new 9months &all 4 of my hubs just inside the wheel have rusted &look a mess ive taken it back to the dealer &he said he would get back to me which he hasnt but said prob wont do anything anyway what would you guys do im new to this warrenty issues etc cheers

Yes, my disc hubs were exactly the same, they probably all are.

I simply removed the wheels (one at a time) and painted the offending parts with Hammerite smooth silver, also painted the scruffy looking brake calipers, on all surfaces that would be visible.

The job took less than an hour to complete and looks very smart indeed.

Had my CUPRA now for just over a week and already the rear hubs are blistering with rust, though the fronts appear intact for the moment.

I recently replaced the brakes all round on my mk5 golf before I sold it, after 2 days the hub/disc section looked a mess so I cleaned them down and primed the whole disc including the braking surface. The pads cleaned off the surface within minutes of driving and the rest now looks fine. I used to work for Mercedes and their brake discs came coated in a primer. You could do it without removing the brakes, just put a plastic bag over the claliper and newspaper between the disc and back plate. After reading this it maybe one of my first jobs when the Leon arrives next week.

I did my a few weeks back ,took one wheel off at a time paint the hub and brake calipers with sliver hammerite with a brush .While it was drying I give the wheel a good clean and wax. The job took about 3 hours but the brake dust just washers off the wheels.

I was going to paint them, but so far (8 month & 4,000 miles on) they don't seem to be to bad:

took mine to dealer yesterday for him to see - apparently they ALL suffer from this, and Seat won't do it under warranty, he said. he reckons it's FR owners who complain most because the wheels allow you to see more of the hub. Which is all part of the disc assembly.
I'll call Seat CS Monday and ask them anyway, but I suspect I'll be jacking it up and using Hammerite too.

Mine also look ok, year old and 6000 miles, do wash right into the hub area using zip wash which has wax in it, so maybe that helps. This is my 7th SEAT and never had rusty hubs.

The 18" performance wheels are for sale £400 ive tried putting them in the for sale section 3 times &still havnt shown up !

1st thing I did when I got my mk 2 , wasn't orange with rust , more black for some reason. Maybe a mix of rust and brake dust.

satin black spray and red paint on Hammerite Smooth.

In terms of warranty this is just a no go zone Warranty will reject any claim for this most Dealerships will have tried already and failed so kicking up a fuss to them really isn't fair Unless Seat CS is willing to cover it, which so far they have chosen not to.

Done a few of these repairs myself Personally I always aim to return the vehicle back to a factory look unless the customer has asked otherwise to do this Typically I will use a die grinder with a brass wire wheel attachment to remove most of the rust/corrosion on worse cases I will coat the assembly with a rust remover Such as Tunap 103 Typically while going for a complete job i will coat the disc and friction side of the pads in Tunap 112 (removes rust from the disc surface reduces brake squeak etc etc) and clean and re grease the sliders with Tunap 113 ( basically synthetic copper grease) With the pads removed I will coat the calliper, carrier and hub assembly with Tunap 221 ( adhesive corrosion protection)

The hammerite works just fine though personally I would still prep the surfaces with a brass wire wheel before hand, and clean thoroughly with Brake cleaner before applying.

Brush the paint on. However, I would recommend thinning with Hammerite paint thinners, it's much too thick as it comes out of the tin - would be hard work and leave brush marks.

I used a 1/2" soft chisel shaped artists brush. You can hold the brush steady and turn the disc to do the edges.

Spraying would require far too much masking. The job was much quicker and easier than I was expecting.
