First thing to establish is if the engine actually turns over with the key or not. "just jumping" is a bit vague. The battery needs to be strong enough to turn the starter motor fast enough for the engine to fire a few times before it will start.
Could just be a flat battery, If the starter doesn't turn with the key (no fast chugging sounds) You need to first look at your battery, no need for code scanning in that case.
Tell us more about what does and doesn't happen, because "just jumping" isn't much to go on.

Cheers guys. Something very strange is happening to my Leon. Left it for a few hours and started perfectly. It will be absolutely perfect one min and the next it will be trying to cut out when prone and juddering and when this happens the diesel sound increases and then all of a sudden will click back to driving fine!
