SEAT lives on! New Leon hybrid to be followed by 'surprise' update | Auto Express

Yeah I've just seen the presentation of two "new" cars with the jurnos in Spain but under embargo until the end of the month. I thought this was under embargo too but clearly not!

Reckon this has happened before I find your embargoed material from Seat / Cupra gave you, but it's in the wild. Those videos might be out there as well..

I was wondering why there had been no pictures or announcements and vague reporting...

Someone will leak it, doubt it is worthy of the Dark Web though; SEAT released a video of the 'new cars' in early 2024.

The cars are yet to be pushed into that space :ROFLMAO: .

I'm interested in what they will offer as the Ateca replacement or not bother. Where the line goes between their core cars and the ones they reckon they wont do. It had been nothing apart from the run out of ICE. Now its Hybrid but what about EV.

I see an Ibiza EV when batteries are cheap enough with the MEB+ platform of the ID Polo and Raval underpinning it. Seems Skoda is now posh and for the elderly grey pound, well older demographic like Toyota?. So SEAT will have to be the budget baby to bring in gen alpha to VAG from what I have read.

I assumed the Terramar would replace the Ateca? SEAT stay small and budget.

Terramar only if they drop the Cupra logo. There is that Skoda EV, the Elrog which is the Karoq EV type of deal which could be run out as the Ateca... the Evaca 🤣. They got to name it after a town. They were not snotty about having three SUVs for their three brands making nine cars. Now they have the Cupra brand and I doubt they will go down market offering those models to Seat.

It's probably an indication of whether there will be a Leon 5 as to where it's all going and whether they support mid sized SUVs like the Ateca, but we'll see. The practically of not having a full dealer network for Cupra and systems not working correctly may be a limiting factor to sales. You never know.

We'll have a video review of both the cars when the embargo is lifted on October 29th. The event wasn't about the Leon but they did show this roadmap for SEAT. On the plane back currently. Someone has to take one for the team. ;-)
It's a hard life - still cannot believe the embargo though; invite you out to see, then tell you to keep QT till the end of the month. May as well have had it on the 29th. Anyhow, hope you did not get sun burn nor missed the grey clouds of blighty! Will you know full UK spec and prices by the 29th though?

Not prices yet. It's an international launch so other media arrive from different countries so it gives everyone a chance to prep.

Electric SEAT Ibiza in the mix as brand rebirth plan emerges | Auto Express https://share.google/BAVatV9ep1aSJBvK0

Just in time EV - but not yet 😉. Since they can still sell new ICE cars till 2035 in Europe the real requirement for a Seat EV is 2035 and on if the brand is to continue, but hybrid is required for the UK market from 2030. Hence presumably why there isnt a Seat EV. The Vag parts bin isn't being raided just yet for an EV

So hang on, if Cupra no longer = fast, and you can get a Cupra Leon with a 1.5 hybrid… what’s the point of a Seat branded Leon?
Nobody wants to buy a car knowing not only is it not the quick version, but it’s also been deliberately made worse vs its Cupra branded step-brother?
It made sense when the Cupra was the halo range topper, and debadged there was little to tell it apart from a lower model. But wearing an entirely different badge?

“Yeah mate I got my 1.5 Leon in the shitty ‘Seat’ trim, couldn’t afford to upgrade to the ‘Cupra’ trim level. Neither will pull the skin off custard anyway”

Well the Cupra people got upset when the 1.5 engine turned up on the Ateca Cupra. Personally I think Vag are digging a hole for themselves with the Cupra brand. Expensive cars but only sold in limited dealerships but when sold with less umf it upsets the Cupra folk. You can't please all of the people all of the time, but will they please enough people to make a decent profit or become a specialist high value brand with low sales volumes.

The big unveil which hasn't been unveiled yet is Seat is going hybrid to plug the gap between 2030 - 2035. My take on it. Question is whether the bigger Seat SUVs will be axed totally. Tarraco has already gone. Will the Ateca be replaced or are we suppose to travel miles to get a Cupra version along the lines of the Terramar or Tavascan type of SUV. People have choices and with less dealer presence they may walk, never mind any reliability issues which have bogged down the MQB Evo platform and Mib3 or some dealer network that arent very good with a jobs worth attitude... the other conservation. Mind you if the jobs worth dealerships sell the other brands as well those will get a limited edge 😉. You got to sort out the reliability, the dealerships, access and price as well as the offer....
