Hi All.

Went to Seat Oldham with a couple of warranty problems such as power loss (car seams quite slow sometimes on motorways), and rear passenger speaker wasnt working.

Anyways, i had a handsfree kit fitted in november, and a new radio by Stockport Seat in december as it broke under warranty. So, ever since jan i have had no passenger rear speaker working. Went to Oldham to ask them to look for the problem and left it with them for a few hours sat. When i collected the car they said its the handsfree kit, and therefore £59.90 to identify the problem.

I had to pay the cost otherwise no car, so i paid it and returned to the handfree fitter to which they said there was one wire missing from the loom and they plugged it back in.

Its obvious Seat Stockport have caused the problem, but where do i go to claim my £59 quid back, as they gave me NO indication it would be chargable, or what the charges could be as i thought it was a warranty issue.I do know it is not a warranty issue but i think its out of order to say its £59 without giving me prior warning to the cost.

Anyone got any ideas where the best place is to start?

Thanks

write to the MD of the company. If you get nowhere write to Seat. If you get nowhere write to watchdog and the papers ect. If you still get nowhere then give up!!

Go back to SEAT Stockport who screwed it up in the first place. Ask them for the money

Why should SEAT Oldham be out of pocket fixing your car, SEAT UK will not pay them for warranty work, when it wasn't SEAT UK's fault that your speaker wasn't working.

If I'm reading this right then it sounds like Marsden1002 has been charged £59 to look at the speaker fault, which is fair enough but he should have been warned about this before they did the work rather than waiting until the car was collected.

The issue in that case is that SEAT Oldham are at fault for not letting him know the costs before the work starts.

I take it the handsfree kit was installed by a third party. Unfortunately manufacturers will always blame the third paty even though it was probably caused when the new stereo was fitted.

I agree that the charge should of been explained to the customer before any work was undertaken.

It can be very difficult to prove that work was undertaken without your authority. It will generally come down to your word against the word of the garage.

As with this forum discussion it's a very one sided affair at the moment. We are not in full possession of the whole story so making any judgement against SEAT Oldham is unfair in the circumstances. As it appears SEAT Stockport may have been the initial cause of the problem anyway, and the car should of gone back to them to rectify as they have prior history.

If the problem has been rectified by SEAT Oldham, the garage has a legal right to hold disputed goods (ie the car) until payment is made. In these circumstances, the only way you can recover possession of the car is to 'pay under protest' and to pursue your claim for reimbursement.

They may well be a member of a trade association with an arbitration service which can help sort out your complaint. You may have to pay for using an arbitration service, but conciliation is usually free. Discuss the service offered with the trade association before committing yourself.

You could also take small claims action in the County Court if you feel you have a strong enough case for reimbursement.

I'll add that I'm not a solicitor or legal representative, and this is an interpretation of the law based on what is freely available to discover on the internet and is for guidance only. :p

Have a look at http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk for better information.

Speak to Seat Oldham direct, they are decent people.

If you have a good enough argument I am sure they will sort it.

If you start moaning on forums about dealers they may just f88k you off.

Sort it out direct.

Seat Oldham / Stockport

Hi All.

Well spoke to the manager at Seat Stockport today, after waiting for a call back for a week and a day. He basically said because i did not give them enough time to sort the problem (ordered a speaker with them december, then they rang me in april to say they had it in!!) they will not give me a refund for the problem.

The manager is also saying how do they know the problem was not there when i had the kit fitted - because it started when they fitted the new radio!! He also said he is also disapointed because i didnt give them a chance to sort it before i began asking for advice on what to do (on here - hes read it!!) - they have had four months!!!!

Anyway, enough of my complaining i just want to advice everyone not to use Seat Stockport, due to there sheer Incompetence on the service side of things. Another point about stockport, was when my gearbox gave up, they took the car off me and told me it was a linkage problem, four days later it turns out to be a gearbox, and had to wait around 2 weeks for the repair!!

If you like a car at Seat Stockport, speak to Rob Miller as he is a very good and friendly sales bloke, then dont go back for anything to do with repairs, replacment parts, warranty issues because, like i have said, are totally Incompetence.

I will now be Pursuing the issue with Seat UK, and i am glad to say, will be going to Seat Oldham (where they got me a speaker within a day & with a call back like promised).

Rant over!!!

Stockport were woeful when I was shopping for a Cupra. Because I turned up in my 44 ton artic they didn't take me seriously. "Sorry we can't let you test drive a Cupra."

Nevermind!

They wouldn't let me buy a car from them either!
I tried to, but they were having none of it. So I went elsewhere to buy my car.

Although i managed to buy my car from Seat Stockport the aftercare has been poor to say the least. from time of order and pickup they had un installed the armrest and floormats and then denied it - i got them back in the end.
then, when i had dpf problems they hung up on me! when i called back noone would admit who i was talking to and was told the manager was on holiday and noone was there to deal with me[:@]
in the end i have voted with my feet and not been back since - i am happy to report i have advised so far two friends to buy their Seats elsewhere and will continue to share my experiences with anyone i know whos looking to buy from them. good to hear that they read these forums, hopefully now they will know they are :censored: and do something about it.

Seat Oldham , N/W longest running Seat dealer , family run , bodyshop on site , the Manager is a member on here Gary@cookies Nuff said!

leon

I agree with above.

As regards to Seat Stockport :censored::censored::censored: , my ofice is in Stockport and I bought my MK 1 Leon from Stockport :cry: but I drive past it every time I go to Cook's.

My 13 year old lad knows more about Leons that all of the staff at Stockport put together, and his attitude(Kevin and Perry phase at the moment) is also better :):)

Well, it seems that members who have dealt with this dealership have had a very poor customer experience.

No wonder Seat scores low in customer satisfaction surveys if customers are treated with contempt by dealerships. I have also had a number of promises broken by my dealer (not the one mentioned above), the simplest one being "I will call you right back". First rule of business - if you make a promise make sure you deliver on it or you will destroy any trust you had established with your customer. It is such a fundamental rule, aside from being good manners, yet I am dumbstruck by the number of businesses which fail to do this.

Marsden - if I were persuing this with Seat UK, I would ask the members who have had negative experiences with this dealer to supply me with more details and include this in any correspondence to Seat UK.

I am positive that Seat UK will not want their brand harmed by any dealership.

So lets get this straight...

He knows of the thread and has read it. Lets hope he reads it again. And buries his head in the sand no doubt. The more people who know where to avoid the better.

Maybe end this thread on a positive??

I dont know how to do it, but maybe somone start a new thread with a "vote" or "poll".

List a number of Seat dealers and "users" vote who have had "GOOD" experiances.

Lets not mention bad experiances, in this chart we will see who gets the most "hits"

The dealers that dont get any hits, enough said.:banned:

I think it would be best to rename or delete this thread.
It has Seat Oldham in the title, but everyone is slagging off Seat Stockport, anyone who finds this thread and reads any post except the origional one will think we're slagging off Seat Oldham.
