Evening,

We are looking at selling our 2012 Seat Ibiza at the moment, prices seem all over the place. Does anyone have any ideas what an immaculate Seat Ibiza 2012, SE Copa with 13500 miles is worth as a trade in or selling privately?

The price I got offered by the dealer is miles apart from all the online evaluations that I've had from Autotrader and Whatcar etc

It's got a lot of kit like Auto headlights, auto wipers, digital climate control, cruise control etc.

Thanks for your help.

What I've always done is, gather up all prices, ie trade-in, private sale and dealer forecourt price from maybe one publication, if buying a new car from a dealer, include his factual and real price against the deal you are doing, then take a good look at all the figures to see why you are getting a low price if trading in - it might just be that you are getting a really good deal on the new car.

Always consider the situation if replacing that car with a new model, the cost to change is the only consideration.

Also, I have never ever sold a car privately for any less than I was effectively getting by chopping it in - lots of tyre kickers will be expecting you to do just that! If you can visit two dealers, getting the cost of buying new handing your car in, then get another dealer to give you the best deal with no trade in - then you can see what your car is worth to the trade. If then selling privately then add a few hundred pounds on to that price, or maybe be willing to split the savings with a private buyer.

Also if buying new, check what deals are on Orangewheels/drivethedeal/etc.

Lastly, remember, if trying to sell that car privately, that you will not be offering any warranty or finance service - so you can't ask dealer selling prices.

From what I've seen, SEAT prices drop like a stone at trade in time, though main dealers seem to ask quite a bit for any secondhand cars they are selling!

Thanks for the message. We aren't buying a new car at the moment so the three prices I have had for a dealer / 'we buy and car' type place are £300 within each other so their trade evaluation cannot be too far off. I also got a 'CAP' price evaluation and the price that the dealer offered was bang on with this evaluation. Autotrader seems to over price the cars like mine and Ebay seems to under value them, so I was thinking of considering my trade in price and the two online guides by going right in the middle. Hopefully this will end up with a reasonable price.

The price the dealer told me they would put it up on their website for didn't make sense, as the three cars they have of the same spec have three times the mileage of mine and they are priced high! I think they were perhaps telling me slight porky pies.

Its difficult to sell a second hand car when you can get such a good deal on finance these days!
