Can anyone give me some advice on this?

My car is on 36k miles and has only had one service done on it (due to the dealers lying about it's service history).

0k: Off the production line service.
24k Dealer service (not sure what was done).

I really need to get my next service sorted.
I regularly check the car over in terms of oil, tyres, fluid levels, etc.

What type of service do you think I will need to have done? Normal or full?
What do each of these cover and how much will they cost?

About 70% of the last 13k miles has been on motorways if that makes any difference.

Advice:

If the dealers have lied about the service history and there's solid proof, take it back and get a full refund and a grovelling apolgy and buy a car of somebody decent!!

Unfortunately, I've been through this before. The service history was given to me via the dealers mouth so I have no proof of what he said. It was only after I bought the car that I found out that I had somebody else's service book. After about 2 months of them saying I will be getting the service book, they turned round and said it didn't have a fsh. I have no qualms about the car, just the dealer.

Definately sounds like a place to be avoided!!

If it's on 36k now and last service was 24k it's 2k overdue so get that sorted asap. Does it say in the book what was done at the last service?

Getting the servicing back on track is a start but it doesn't undo that fact that it did 24k on the same oil and filter and any damage that may have occured will still be there, not to mention the car's value is now much less than that of a car with full correct FSH.

To be honest, I'd still be writing a letter to the dealer and one to trading standards, can't do any harm.

True, that's why I'm trying to get this service sorted. I've been too busy over the past few weeks to try and organise it. I'm hoping to phone up a few places tomorrow about it.

I've got a bit of compensation from the dealer for this. 1 years extended warranty, my service book stamped, and 25% off my next service (with them).

I also had numerous conversations and meetings with the dealer, as well as contact with Trading Standards. TS admitted that I was in a sticky situation and because it was all word of mouth, there was nothing I could really do about it. Quite a few people have said "take the car back" or "get a full refund" but it's easier said than done. I'm just going to put it down to experience so that I hopefully never fall foul of this again. I certainly won't be buying my next car from them.

Fair enough, sounds like you've definately exhausted all avenues then!

Get a 40k service done by somewhere trustworthy and start enjoying the car. As the history isn't as it should you might as well take advantage and start modding!!

some may say lala land....
i would use the dealership 25% of at 36k - do not wait any longer as another 4k may takes weeks/months and be no help to car

one guy mentioned highlighting all parts that should be replaced with a uv pen so you can check when pick up to ensure not been ripped off again; usual things like oil filter air filter etc

then at 46k take to an specialist independent or another garage you trust

no idea to be honest as garage always done it and trust them
just a thought i had when read of his troubles and that the 24% of is not to be sniffed at

though could use it at 60k for cambelt/water pump/tensioner time is suppose

Thanks for the replies. If that garage does offer the best deal, I think I will do this. First, I'll take a look to see if anything is marked in any way (that makes it stand out) and take a few photos.

So, the dealer and the 25% discount aside, what will I need servicing?
Will it be a basic or full service? How much should this be? £200, £300?

I'd get the garage to do it for free otherwise you'll start naming names.
Fuel, oil, air and cabin filter.
Was the brake fluid changed at 20(4)k?
Coolant may need changing - check it yourself first with a £5 gizmo from Halfrauds.
Mark things up with a UV pen or discretely hidden blob of hard wax at a join.
The fuel and oil filter are elements that are changed but you could wax seal the lids at a spot and/or mark the screws on fuel filter with UV pen, 1 in 6 chance they put the same screw back in same hole. Cabin and air filter can be marked as its paper. Paint dab on sump plug for oil drain.

So much hassle marking everything up and taking it to a dodgy dealer, just to make sure you get the job done properly. Then pay over the odds and get a discount to bring the price back down to what an honest garage would charge in the first place. Sounds like too much hassle to me. Just take it to a good independent and move on, cos the dealer sounds like a proper crook.

There is a Skoda garage nearby, along with Audi and VW. Would those service a SEAT, seeing as though it is part of the VAG group and is basically a Golf/Audi with a different shell?

Amazingly, the garage in question is listed as an independant dealer on SEAT's website. I've told them what I think of the garage so maybe they will start some investigations as it is putting a black mark on SEAT's reputation as well.

I don't why you are bothering with this dealer. Tell them to stick it up their **** and find somewhere decent. I wouldn't trust this dealer at all to do anything properly.

As you're from South Yorkshire, there must be loads of places you can go to. Research it and if you haven't got the time for it then on your own head be it. Sorry but its your motor, your call.

Yes they will be able to do it, i Believe that any garage can do it aslong as they use VAG parts.

I called up an approved Volkswagen dealer this afternoon. They said the SEAT (and other VAG models) cars have two main types of servicing.

Option 1:

A full service every 10k/1yr for circa £260.

Option 2:

A full service every 20k/1yr for circa £280/£185 (the price alternates, £280, then £185, then £280 and so on).

The first is beneficial for people who do mainly town driving whereas the second is more beneficial and cheaper for people doing high mileage. I'd class myself who does around 18k a year (70% motorway driving) to be in the latter category.

Both services are almost the same. Oil, air, fuel filters changes, oil check, mechanical condition, exterior, tyres, etc, plus some other things that I've forgotten.

Whereabouts in South Yorkshire are you?

Doncaster.

I'm going to take this advice. I just don't trust that dealer any more. They quoted me £275 for the same service. Fair enough I would get 25% off of that but for £70 i'd rather have the peace of mind that it is with a reputable approved VAG dealer.

Doncaster eh? Then I presume Knaresborough is a little too far to go to a trusted dealer. And as it's Doncaster I presume the Seat dealers are the same ones that my car initially came from. Begins with S and ends with acre.

That's a bit further that I'd prefer :D

Yep, its S....acre. Did you buy your car from them or was it the previous owner that bought it from them?

Also worth noting - before you go back to the dealer accusing them of not changing oil - fresh oil goes black as soon as it's poured into a TDI ;)
