Hi there

Im new to the forum, I dont actualy own a seat but im looking at getting a tdi in the near future. Im looking at either a leon fr 150 or the new 170 although that would take a little more saving. Im looking for a little bit of advice from you guys to what to get. How does the performance compare between the two cars? Are seats faster than the quoted manufacturer figures because i seen to think i read that on the forums some where. Im also considering an biza cupra tdi? What would you guys recomend?

Alex

Ibiza Cupra tdi. All the way. As CupraRuss said, smaller, nippier, HUGE front brakes, FMIC, etc. All you need is clutch + big turbo and job's done. 230bhp and 380ish ft/lb of torque. Eats practically everything on the road and would STILL be cheaper than a 170. ;)

Road tax is cheaper on Ibiza Cupra too. £110 as apposed to £180ish on the 170 i think?

My parents had a 2.0tdi Altea FR - 170bhp. Couldn't get more than 40 average mpg out of it. They've now got an Ibiza FR (130bhp) and still got plenty of poke with freakishly getting nearly 65mpg out of it on every run!

I *think* the 170 comes with a DPF (diesel particulate filter) which makes it more awkward to remap and r
tune etc if this is something you may be looking to do.

Unless you prefer the leon for size/looks, the Ibiza may be worth a look.

Correct. They can be remapped but I've heard of a remap to about nearly 200bhp actually setting the exhaust system on fire as it's seriously messed with the DPF and instead of it just burning the soot off, it burnt the whole exhaust off! :D

Plus the engines with DPF's sound shite imo. And if you put your hand next to the exhaust on tick over you can hardly tell it's running.

Not sure if any tuners in the UK are doing it yet, but I recall one foreign tuner has successfully removed the DPF and reprogrammed the ECU to cope with the missing DPF sensors - paving the way for a proper remap :)

It was the extra bit of speed whith attracted me to the ibiza, I dont need a lot of room i just thought ot would be handy. Will be doing car sharing on the way to work which would mean having a car full but i guess id always be comfy in the front seat, evry1 else will have to live with it. I would probably get a re-map not sure about the uprated turbo. would have to see how power hungry i got.

I'd get the Ibiza Cupra TDi and not shed a tear for the other passengers.
Maybe they'll end up taking more turns and saving you money if they feel a bit cramped (That's the tight Scot in me)?

I had an Ibiza FR Tdi - loved it, but it was really all about the engine

Now have a Leon 140 and the Leon is just a much better car - don't think its quicker though

I miss the grunt of my Revo'd MK1 but not the clutch slip.

MK2 is a far more modern car in it's favour. Not sure if I'd have it chipped.

Get the 170 FR mate, great car.

AndyVTR,

I have mine bluefinned the past 4 months or so and covered 3k so far with no problems and the car is far quicker now, the car is making 212bhp and 336lb/ft or torque.

The standard clutch appears to be under no pressure and the ESP contains the power well.

Im going to test drive an ibiza cupra 2moro. Im predicting its gonna cost me about 12k in total with insurance and everything. The car has just under 10000 miles on a 57 plate so is nearly new. was looking for sumthing cheaper but this one is close to me and im thinking the lack of miles may be worth the extra cost.

I was gonna ask you guys if it was worth spending all iv got, plus a bit more on it but im thinking the test drive 2moro will decide that for me.

Where abouts are you based Alex?

It seems a bit mad that you're looking at paying £12,000 for a 57 plate with 10,000, when there are good, low mileage models out there that are selling privately (Like mine http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=189702 ), which is a June 2006 model with only 26k on the clocks and a price tag of £7995?

That's a huge extra premium of £4000 for a year or so newer and only 16k miles more?

If you're not that close I'd be willing to split the mileage with you to see my Cupra TDi go to a good home.

Even if you don't consider my car, it just shows that you may be able to save yourself a fortune? :)

Thanks for the advice Im still gonna test drive the car then will consider my options, It may be possible to knock them down a little. The 12k included my insurance quote aswell. Im afraid to say im not a fan of yellow otherwise i would have snapped you up on the offer.
