Mk2 in my mind is a totally different heavier not as enjoyable car, the original really is the best as far as Leon's go for me anyway, I've driven many cars and time after time I keep coming back for more, people that own or have owned one know its an indescribable affliction with what will be in 10 years a cult car, a Spanish cousin born from the reminants of the VAG parts bin, but instead of the usual incestuous vulgarity usually created of brand branching, the Leon cupra and cupra R was an absolute flipping success, it excels itself and still brings pleasure among owners in the shadows of much higher priced brands and wares, I tell you, you will never regret it, if you do... You can personally have my address to punch me in the face lol
I'd disagree and say the mk2 is far superior is almost every way and far more reliable in my experience. I will be buying another one ASAP when funds allow.
just out of intrest what would you say that makes the mk1 so different to the mk 2?
I like both and have the mk1.looks wise the mk2 do look nice,now apart from the ovious from the brakes ect general wear and tear whats the difference?lol I know one thing parts are not cheap
but I chose to buy the car so ive no need to complain.Better build quality, the power delivery is smoother. If you're interested in tuning you can put a k04 Turbo in without much effort. Standard extras like cruise control. I find it much more comfortable.

I think the build quality is quite good I was looking to get the clio 182 and the difference from that and the leon was just ovious,BUT then I like the Renaults also ive had a few,so when it comes to working off them as 20yr old cars the leons are pretty simple,if your hand with a spanner and take your time keep the engine simple your be ok,look after it,i think the engine is solid ive had no problems the general stuff u get with cars but the engine block its self then its ok.the turbo you can build yourself and mix and match to suit but depends on what you want from it.
all depends on what you want from a/the car,i tell you one thing 5 mins to take a brake capiler off simple,as for my Renault 5 I had...........
new cars have come along way and they geramans know how to build cars.BUT each to there own its all seat anyway
For me personally, 6 previous owners is quite risky in terms of the chances that at least one of those was a hooning idiot who cared little for the car and thrashed it at every possible opportunity. Of course it *could* have had 6 decent owners, but if you are going for it, take more time checking it over for the above reasons.
Also, if a car's had 6 owners, sometimes it can mean that it's unreliable, therefore, owners keep wanting to get shot of it?
Having said that, I once owned a 9-year-old Lancia(!) that had 7 previous owners, yet it was arguably the most reliable/hassle-free car I've ever owned. Although, I bought it from a mechanic who'd given it much TLC because it was his wife's car.
