Has anyone owned a seat Ateca then switched to a Cupra Terramar?

If so, how would you compare the interior size including boot space? I’m thinking of getting one as they look amazing. I have a young family so don’t want to downsize in terms of overall luggage / back seat space.

Any help would be great.

I've got an Ateca and checked out the Terramar in my local dealer's showroom when it was released.

Space for rear seat passengers is poor; less headroom and you sit lower, so knees are higher.

In my Ateca I can, in reasonable comfort, sit in the rear behind the driver's seat set for me. For reference; I'm 6'2" and 110kg.

For the driving position, I did not like the enveloping centre console and, crucially, the gear selection lever/switch on the steering column was a complete turn off.

Boot space is slightly longer but not as deep.

I subsequently switched my car sticking with the Ateca.

Comparing the published dimensions of the Ateca and Terramar - the Terramar is 133mm longer, 22mm wider, however the overall height is 29mm less than an Ateca.

The interior of the Terramar seems to be aligned with Cupra's EV cablin approach, especially the centre console and shift lever.

I've switched from an Ateca to a Terramar (got mine at the end of September). So, obviously it's a bit longer, and you feel that. But most of the extra length appears to be in the bonnet. I'm 5 foot 9, and rear legroom behind me isn't bad. I'd say it's slightly less than in the Ateca, but the rear seats are deeper, so it may be an illusion. My kids are young and none of us are tall, so this isn't a problem for us. I've tried the back seat - my knees aren't close to touching the seat in front. Sitting in the back definitely feels a bit more cossetted than in the Ateca, partly because the rear seats are narrow, partly because of the shape of the front seats, but also because of the slightly higher window line and darker colour palette. My kids (6 and 8) really like it in the back and no one has yet been car sick. The front probably feels a bit cosier than the Ateca too, due to the curved dash and big centre console. It's hard to explain, but I like that in the front. It's nice. The sports seats make sourcing accessories like tablet holders a bit trickier and more expensive though.

The boot is longer, but is definitely more shallow. The boot floor does adjust for height, but only by about an inch or two. Cupra's UK specifications say it's "540/642 litres with FWD position rear seats and without double floor cover". It's therefore unclear whether the 540l is with or without the boot floor. The Ateca had a 510l boot. Realistically you're not going to take the boot floor out, particularly if you've a subwoofer or spare wheel under it - it's just bare metal under there. You're also not likely to slide the rear seats far forward, particularly on a long journey as your kids wont have anywhere to stand as they get in. I'd say the boot is probably more in the region of 490l, so a bit smaller than the Ateca's boot, but a more useful shape. I'm yet to have to fill it full, but that'll happen in the next couple of months. I don't think it's going to hold much more than the Ateca's, but I'm fairly confident that I'm not giving up a significant amount of space either. A Tuscon, Sportage or Tiguan would offer more boot space (although again the stated capacity of the Tiguan is a bit disingenuous).

It's interesting that none of the reviews I've yet seen of the new Audi Q3 mention a lack of rear leg room or the boot being small. From what I can tell, its dimensions must be broadly the same as the Terramar's. I guess they're judged against different standards.

Overall I'm happy with the dimensions of the Terramar. I was upgrading from a 1.0l Ateca (manual), so it feels like a significant upgrade. I'm looking forward to loading it full for a family holiday. The Ateca was probably better packaged, it was usefully shorter but with a similar amount of interior space. The long bonnet on the Terramar looks cool though, and it's no less practical I don't think. My Terramar (1.5 v2) is probably equally firm around town and the motorway noise seems about the same as in the Ateca. It feels much fancier though.

I'm about to swap from a VZ2 300PS Cupra Ateca to a new VZ2 265PS Terramar both with the pan roof so deaglun's post is especially interesting. The Terramar has the upgraded audio and a spare wheel too. There seem to be some crazy deals floating around, I looked at a year old vehicle in a similar spec and was offered about £22k for my May '23 vehicle as a PX with around 36,500 miles on the clock, The dealer came back and said VAG are offering support on new vehicles ex-stock, with a £11,500 contribution, changing the PX value of the Ateca to more than I paid for it originally.

Whilst the Terramar is down on power compared with the Ateca, both are pushing out 400Nm of torque so I suspect that the real-world driving experience will be quite comparable.
