Was a bit naughty this morning I ragged the car went it wasn't hot enough. I could then smell like an eggy smell thru the vents and there was a loud clicking noise coming from the engine. I pulled over turned if off and back on and it seemed fine. Anyone any ideas what it could be?

sounds like the cat if its ok now it should be ok probably cus u dint let it warm up. my exhaust clicks when i turn it off but ive had that with a lot of cars.
Sounds to me like the cat,should get it checked out mate the ticking noise seems to me the typical noise you get after a good ragging cooling down tapping
If the smell was only there for a short time, probably nothing to be alarmed about... all of my cars have given off a puff of pong at some point.

Forgot to ask, can you hear the ticking noise while you're on the move, or only when you're stopped & at idle?
If it's only when you're stopped & at idle, it's probably the charcoal canister... located on the drivers side, behind the washer bottle. That ticking noise is normal

Sounds like someone planted an Improvised Eggsplosive Device in your engine bay. Annoyed any terrorists lately?

Check under the seats for egg sandwiches you may of had for lunch..... this happended to me before with my mk4 golf gti... apparently a common problem.... VW recalled alot of them
