Spanner Symbol

Hi Guys

Yesterday after a long drive, we got to our desitnation and a spanner symbol started flashing on the MFD. The car is a 2012 1.6 diesel 7 spd DSG.

I switched the car off and back on again and it was fine then, today after another drive it came back on again, just in the top right hand corner it flashes between the spanner and the gear that the car is in eg D1....

When cycling through the screens on the MFD it says that the service is not due for another 4000 miles.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is coming up or what it means??

I did do a search but could not find anything about this in particular.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Spanner relates to service. It is probably just warning you that it's service is due. Depends on servicing intervals too, some are set to time ie 12 months and others to mileage iirc.

I wondered whether it is time or mileage. You might be 4000miles off but could it be due based on the time passed since the last service?

Thanks for the info guys, I called the garage where we got the car from and they checked the history of the car and said it was serviced just before we got it l, which was only 4 months ago and they said it looks like they just didn't reset the service counter.

Does this sound right?

Hi,

A little update on this, the car gear changes have become really jerky and the drive is not smooth anymore, also after doing a scan on the car, the following fault code came up: P189C - Function Restriction due to Insufficient pressure build up. This was on a generic fault code reader at the garage that we got the car from, I have left the car with them now so they said they will have a look at it and see if they can sort it.

Anyone else had any issues like this??

The spanner is still flashing and upon checking it yesterday the garage have confirmed its not the service symbol.

OK so the garage have had a look at the car and it looks like it is leaking oil from the gearbox, they are waiting to further investigate.....

Hi mate I just got the same issue and it’s stressing me the garage said licking from the gearbox and they sort it out
And now again the same issue spanner symbol shown up
Any advice?
