Hello everyone,

I'm due to collect a new 5 door Ibiza 1.4SE Copa shortly, and I understand that this model comes with a bottle of goo rather than a spare wheel. Can't say I'm too keen on this option...

Had I realised when negotiating the deal I would have asked the dealer if they could supply a spare wheel for me - presumably a spacesaver used to come as standard prior to the (recent?) "upgrade".

I'll ask anyway when I collect the car, but meanwhile, I'm looking at other options.

The car comes with 16" alloys and, I believe, 215/45 R16 tyres.

Having looked on-line, I've only seen ONE used spacesaver wheel for this model, priced at £114. Its a 14" with 175/70/14 tyre. Then a further £24 for the jack, plus postage. Strikes me as a bit expensive! :(

Can anyone advise me:

1. Would this size suit the car - ie is the 14" spare with a 175/70 tyre a close enough size match for a 16" wheel with 215/45 tyres?

2. Would any other model's spacesaver fit, eg other VW group models, to increase the possibility of finding another one?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Rob

I've got a spare steel wheel from a Leon in my garage. I'm Sure its unused too, I think the pcd is the same as a mk5 - 5x100.

Hi big rich,

Would that be a spacesaver? Not sure til I get the car whether a full size steel wheel would fit...

If it would, is it something you would consider selling?

Whichever; I assume pcd is a way of quoting the stud spacing? The term is new to me. Car deffo has five stud wheels tho! So if I see an ad for a spacesaver quoting pcd of 5x100, can I be confident that the wheel would fit?

All that said; if dealer price aint much above £100 or so I'd be tempted to bite the bullet and buy new.

Thanks

Rob

Both mk5's I have owned have had full size spares. Not sure what size they are, but you may be able just to get a steely off a scrapper

It would fit, but the rolling radius might not be correct. The tyre size is shared with the Audi A1 and new Polo so it needs to be from one of those three really.

Hi big rich,

Not posted enough to reply by visitor message, it seems :(

Idea much appreciated. I'm collecting car late tomorrow afternoon and will see what dealer says regarding cost of new wheel and jack.

May not be as expensive as I'm expected.

Then again, pigs might fly:D

Cheers,

Rob
