Spare wheel

I can believe that they would suggest such a thing, but am unsure on how a 20kg max weight can make such a huge difference to CO2!
An update.
Bristol Street SEAT, Derby had told me no spare was available for the Ibiza but after posters here suggested otherwise, I contacted Pentagon SEAT, Chilwell, Notts.
Wayne, in their parts dept was extremely helpful. He checked with SEAT UK who advised spacesaver not available but a 15" steel wheel plus a 185/60R15 tyre would fit. Ordered wheel from him on Monday and it arrived today.
He also had the part numbers ready for me for jack and brace in case I wanted them, but I'd already sourced these, complete with their polystyrene holder, from EBay (thanks to poster here who supplied link!) and this arrived today.
Rolling diameter of spare is within 0.6% of the 16" alloys with 215/45 tyres - can't get much closer than that...
£134 for something which should have come with the car IMHO, but at least I can guarantee I won't get any punctures now I'm all prepared
And full marks for Pentagon SEAT - from what I've seen of them, I'll be trusting my servicing to them.

185/60/15 is spot on (0% dif) for 215/40/17 as I've just found out.
Screw smack bang in the middle of a reasonably new tyre - typical, at least it should be repairable (touch wood) 2nd in 3 months!
A full size spare is so much better than the space saving doughnut of death!

I don't agree with space saver wheels, I believe them to be illegal when fitted to a car.
My 2011my Ibiza Sport came with a 15" steel spare.
Don't discount the emergency repair kits, they do work!
Last December I was out on the Roger Albert Clark Rally in Newcastleton in my son's Fabia vRS. We got a puncture and fitted the spare, later that day whilst clearing the stage, we got a second puncture! We were still 5 miles from the main road and a further 5 miles from Newcastleton, the second puncture would not inflate at all there was a hole in the sidewall, so we had to refit the wheel that had been punctured in the morning, a borrowed foot pump got some air in the tyre & we were able to drive about Half a mile before having to stop and inflate the tyre again. After some considerable time we got to Newcastleton, we asked the garage to repair the puncture but were told we' d have to wait a while, so we removed the wheel, inflated it using the garage air line only to find the tyre had 2 punctures, one in the centre of the tread and one just on the edge, which would not get plugged. My Motorhome was parked nearby so we used it's emergency fix & go to insert the gunk & inflate the tyre. It worked, my sond drove back to Tyneside and ran round for three days before getting the tyre replaced!
So don't knock the fix & go kits, whilst they don't replace a spare wheel, they can get you home.

Why do you think they are illegal? I can't think manufactures would put an illegal space saver in the boot, would they?
Its pot luck if they work, and I know my luck. If they don't work it costs more than buying a spare.
Three punchers in one day, that is bad luck, that said, easy to damage a road tyre in a forest. . .
The answer is far from simple, thanks to different UK/EU laws its still yet to be resolved however, if fitted yes it'll fail an MOT as the space saver is for emergency use only, travelling to an mot station is not an emergency. . .
