Spark plug gap

I changed the spark plugs the other day on my 1.2 Ibiza, I bought Bosch plugs from euro car parts. The plugs that I removed seemed to have a bigger gap? They were stamped vw ag so I'm guessing they are the original plugs. The Bosch plugs were gapped at 0.9mm which I later found to be the correct gap for mt car as per an online chart. Why would the factory fitted plugs differ? And would this effect performance?

Cheers.

What type were the VW AG plugs that you removed, maybe look for numbers and letters round the area above the thread, I'm saying that just so that you can maybe work out the manufacturer of these plugs - NGK?? and take a look on their website to see what the gap is set to.

BTW, if these plugs were way beyond their normal service life, I would expect that the gap would have opened up a bit due to the spark eroding the material of the electrodes.

I'll need to have a look at the codes. They were pretty old looking so the eroding of the plug could be a good shout.

Cheers
