Speakers - Help me

I'll be honest, I'm a complete newb. I thought ICE was a brand name until yesterday.

BUT

I've finally reached the end of my tether with the standard Ibiza speakers. I just cant deal with the sound going on the right hand side when I use a roundabout anymore.

Questions:

  • What size speakers should I get?
  • Which speakers have people fitted which you'd reccommend?
  • How do I take the grill thing off?

Im looking for mid-range cost, but whatever I buy they have to be uber-discreet cos some nkob head has taken it on himself to vandalise my car (aerial snapped, keyed, footprints on bonnet & roof) so I don't want to temp them/him/her to take a look inside...

The fronts are about 6.5" speakers,

You have to unscrew a small screw in the bottom corner of the grille, by where the door opens then you can just pop the rest of the cover off.

As to what to us I'd get the www.caraudiodirect.co.uk Get there special there £19.99. Just Rainbow speakers re-labelled.. other then that I cant help.

You can also replace the tweeters on the dash. Not too sure wot size they are though as i havent done this yet.
I have changed the head unit, put in 6*9's in the back instead of the old ones (i cut the original shelf to fit them) and i have a sub and amp. I put in new wiring all the way to the back which wasnt too hard to do.
Ive tried to keep my speakers, sub and amp all the same make (Pioneeer) and got them off Bassjunkies. I always go for new stuff (just a personal thing that dont buy second hand audio things just incase). My mate used to have Pioneer ones for the front and the were discrete

Dash speakers are Approx 4". I have a pair of 'Sonys' that I took out of my red Mk2 before I sold it, and Im still debating whether to put them into the Cupra in place of the 'tweeters' that are dash mounted ..:)

Thanks - I don't have any door speakers (1994 impact 1.4) so its just the pathetic dash ones. I'm gonna investigate whats in there this weekend and buy more - pay pending, my boss forgot to pay me... and the cheques clearing....

Im in the same position as you Lovlie...dash speakers about the size of a 50 pence piece.
I have a bit on the door that looks like a speaker grill however there are no holes in it.

Im going for some 10cm dash speakers, probably put the standard size ones in the boot at a later stage and may consider drilling out the little holes in my door panel with a dremel if I get really bored one day.

Ill let you know how it goes.

Correction to this: I did a little bit of investigation when I got home and discovered that the door grills wernt filled in at all and I actually have speakers behind them...silly me. So gonna get some 6.5" and some tweeters. Im a happy bunny.

I think there should be wiring in the back for 6x4's so if you want to remain discreet get a pair of JBL gto's mounted in the slots available. Coupled with a decent from set you should be sorted.

Cheers guys - got some JBL GTO 8cm speakers for £32, which work a treat and were actually really easy to fit. They are however not as bassy as I'd like (or ironically as the cardboard coned originals were) so I'm gonna get some for the back...

Tanks for advice though - appreciated.

I managed to grab a right bargain.

Went for a mooch round a local car boot sale and managed to pick up a set of infinity component front speakers.

Mounted the mid range in the doors and the tweeters and crossovers in the dash.

Also got some Infinity 3 way 6 x 9's which went in the parcel shelf and a 12" sub which Ive not fitted.

All for £20.

Anyone know of any guides for fitting amps and replacing the wiring or is it something I would be better taking to a garage?

Also, any suggestions for a new aerial as the telescopic standard one is a bit crappy?
