Speed Camera Detectors / GPS

I love the way my TomTom alerts me when aproaching cameras. But I only use it when i'm going somewhere I'm not familiar with.

I would like a more fixed alternative that can track my speed via GPS and can alert me to cameras. Something with a free update subscription would be nice.

Then theres the question of where to put it and how to wire it up so I dont have to use my cig lighter power for it (want it to be discreet but so I can see it).

Any ideas?

I have a snooper that gives you speed, radar and laser detection and warns you a fixed distance before fixed camera sites (this can be changed between 1,000 m and 100 m)

You can take a feed for power from pretty much anywhere that comes on with the ignition.

But about the detector, post it up in the General Section or somethin and you'll prob get someone who knows.

I've got the snooper s6r mounted just infront of the obd port under the centre console. I only use it for GPS as i also have a beltronics radar detector that is mounted in the flip down ashtray (007 style  ) . To hardwire these in, i've spliced into the fag lighter wires, and then brought an ignition wire down from the radio loom; and used a relay to switch the units on and off with the ignition wire.

This phrase makes me think it doesn't have a detector just the GPS positions where camera are and have been seen

"The Novus GPS Rider is pre insalled with the Novus camera database which has all the GPS co-ordinates of the all speed cameras and mobile Camera hazards: Gatso, Truvelo, DS2, SPECS speed cameras, Mobile speed cameras, Red light cameras, Congestion charging zones, Saftey camera zones, Accident black spots"

In some places it will be beeping all the timebut not really if there is definately something there

I have a Snooper S6 R with radar detector that I'm about to put up for sale (used, but fully boxed with all cables / mounting brackets etc..). PM me if you're interested. Updates are £5 a month on DD.

I paid a £15 lifetime fee for mine

Yeh your right there. Do the laser ones pick up the GATSO type?

Also, reading into it the laser ones will become illegal in the future, not sure how they would polich/catch people using them though.

I just want a system that will alert me to the most cameras, suppose this depends on how often they upgrade the databases and how often they go round looking for new mobile locations.

Not sure if I've bought the right thing now.....

GATSO's are fixed and their locations are known and easy to find

you might not have the right one if you want the laser detector

iirc laser detectors are pointless. by the time the detector goes off you have been caught. radar detectors work to an extent due to radar "bouncing" off cars in front giving prior warning. there are no real ways to combat laser traps:(

I see. I think I will stick to the one I've bought and see how it goes. Can always waste more money if i don't like it.

Cheers...
