i think for that price u should go for the full fat cupra, they will have everything u want compared to the other models... and for 8K you should be able to get yourself a real good one..

The power delivery is great, the seats comfy, and the performance excellent compared to the economy.

The downsides are the ride isn't good (maybe I'm getting old), the engine is rattly and the motorway noise irritating. But for the money I doubt you'd do much better.

Hi Stezo
I've literally just traded in my 08 Sportrider 1.9 Diesel for a Cupra 20VT.
I feel that having driven both very recently I can help :)

The 1.9Derv I just traded back in was remapped, It was pushing 150bhp and 250lb of torque. It felt bloody fantastic.

They come with the FR Rear Bumper, The FR Wheels, The Facelift front.
They have almost every optional extra EXCEPT a trip computer, Which on a diesel I feel is a pretty useful little tool.

Are you looking at Derv Cupra/FR too or petrols. Really I think if your doing less than 8000 miles a year you may as well get a petrol as the engines near silent, and the cupra 20vt with some very simple upgrades takes it to 245bhp.

I feel if your looking at the Derv's and you want the possibility to upgrade it past 150bhp (And if your looking to mod at all... you will) the FR/Cupra are the best choices.
They have upgraded injectors etc and are capable of higher torques and bhp.

I found the Sportrider is a 95bhp engine, Mine was on the rollers at 120bhp, after a remap 150bhp.

Stage 1 remaps work gorgeous on this, thats almost Cupra Diesel speed and Faster than a FR and the insurance is cheaper than both.
However... that said if your looking then for stage 2... Which you probably will so many parts require replacing its best to just sell up and buy a different model.

I just sold my 08 Sportrider with 12,000 on the clock for 7600 and bought a cupra 07 with 16,000 for 8k.

And aside from a Dervs rediculous economy and Cruise control and electric heated folding mirrors I dont regret it.... I'm having Cruise control fitted on the Cupra tho.

Overall if you want a featurefull daily runner to do the miles then Sportrider it is,
If you dont mind missing a few things but more power with good economy Get the FR/Cupra Diesel.

If its power you want, With average economy with a few things missing Cupra 20VT it is.

Wow thanks for the help, that was really helpful :) to be fair it hasnt put me massively off the sportrider, still sounds great. one like your old one sounds just what i'm looking for. diesels the way to go for me as i'm racking up around 10k a year

i've seen an '08 sportrider with 14k miles for £6k, that sounds extremely cheap for what it is, is that going rate for a sportrider? i'm very tempted. surely thats too cheap for what it is?

that's about right for now as with the MK5 being out has dropped the value of the MK4 a fair bit

you can get a really good face lifted FR for around £7-£7.5k nowadays

excellent, thing is my budget is £6k and i'm tempted by a newer car but the FRs are nice too

'06 FR TDI or '08 sportrider TDI? hmmm

are the frs really that much better? if i can get around 30hp extra with a remap i am very tempted by the sportrider

most people get around 150bhp and about 250ft/lb on a remapped sportrider, thing is, the FR tends to be that from standard, im yet to see anybody with 130bhp and 229ft/lb FR  it just hasnt happened i dont think. mine on the rr hit 156bhp and 256ft/lb with nothing else than a PD160 intake

if your budgets £6k i did see a number of fr facelifts fro £6.5k on the SEAT website dare say that could be negotiated ;)

is the FR any better?? in my eyes yes, hence why i bought it coming from a 1.2 65bhp & a 1.4 100bhp Ibiza's and needing a derv. The bigger brakes, better looking if you get the facelift, the FR branding on the inside, gorgeous alloys, chrome exhaust tip it just sold it too me, and with a remap 180bhp and 300ft/lb :D i just aint stopped grinning, its the first car i've loved

I have just bought a 9k 58 plate sportrider and i'm chuffed with mine, i have a K&N panel filter and a german made DTE Diesel Tuning Box on it and its around the 150+bhp and does a admiral job with that power its a quick car with lots of grunt.

not and FR but still a very good buy.

With 150hp i'd be more than satisfied tbh. Currently have a 1.2 64hp, I love it but with passengers it can be a little slow. I am going for power just not excessive amounts. I recently drove a mk5 golf tdi and was quite impressed with the power and I know the engine specs are quite similar. Just hope around 150hp will be enough later on if i do think about it, £6k for an '08 is frankly a bargain to me, the same in the FR is worth around £9k. speaking of intakes, can the pd100 take the pd160 intake? that would be awesome if so

I did have a quick look on the SEAT website but there wasn't any diesel FR/Cupras in my area sadly :( most facelift FRs seem to fetch around £7k which I have seen, a bit overbudget really, non-facelifts tend to be more my pricerange but i do prefer the look of the facelift models, especially the new alloys.

Your car does sound pretty amazing i must admit mate. I'm not that fussed about the FR branding as I have a few FR bits in my current car plus the sportrider comes with FR allows and bumpers anyway which is a bonus.

I will look at the car but I will bear in mind what you said :)

Sounds great there mate :) you ever drove an FR at all? Can you tell much of a difference if so? Also how much did you pay? I still think £6k seems very cheap for the one i've seen

the sportrider is a really good car, and if i was paying upfront the car rather than finance i probably would have gone the sportrider route in all honesty. The fact that i got it on finance and it cost me an extra £10p/m it was hard to say know with the added bits.

£6k for the record is a total bargain, or if your feeling crazy just clocked a 1.8T cupra facelift model with 16k on the clock on autotrader for £5800

I paid £8200 for mine its a late nov 08 (58plate ) in grey and was my mates daughters who bought it new 18m ago, the car is totally unmarked with 9k miles. It gave my nephews std FR Leon TDI 170 (DPF Version) a run for its money and is a bit quicker than a std Fabia VRS, which would be very similar to a std FR.Woof in sheeps clothing springs to mind.

What i would say is if you intend to modify even more get the FR if 200bhp is your goal, to be honest a 150+sportrider is no slouch but it where you want to be in 6m time ? I dont need anymore power from mine and really pleased i got mine. I had one of the last VW Bora 130bhp sports and was pleased with that and i reckon my sportrider now has a bit more on road real performance.
